Reusing a D*Tv mast

Can a Dish Network reuse the mast that my D*TV currently sits on? If not how would you suggest that I remove the old mount with out damaging my roof?

You don't remove the mount. Just take the pole & dish out and leave the mount on the roof.

I used my old DirecTV mount for an OTA antenna.
If you do remove the mount, just make sure to fill the holes with a LOT of good outdoor rated silicone.
as long as its 1 5/8" , and has a clear line of sight from that location, use it. No need to drill anymore holes into the roof. If you have to remove it, for asphalt shingles, lift up the tab and slip some bishops tape, or bichathane (ice and water shield) underneath to seal the holes.
Thank you for your suggestions. I appreciate everyone's' input.
I used the old DirecTV mount to put my small OTA outdoor antenna up.

Hey it worked fine and looks good.

Might as well use it for something.

Ditto that. It worked great.
I just switched to E* form D* this week. I had two D* mounts on the roof. the installer said they could not use those for insurance reasons....... Anyway he had to install two more for the E* dishes. My wife may leave me.

I am not sure if I fully understand the two dish thing. Do they have or have plans for a single dish?

You don't say but in most cases where 2 dishes are used 1 is for 119 & 110 and the second is for 61.5. This is done because 129 is too weak in your area for reliable HDTV reception. In November a new satellite is scheduled for the 129 location so by 2009 the second dish won't be needed.:)
Akron uses a 61.5 dish because that's where the Cleveland locals are. At some point in the very near future, a single Eastern Arc dish (1000.4) will be used instead.
My installer reused the DirecTV dish mount for a Dish 1000

Insurance reasons ??? That sounds like total B.S. to me.

Other than a line-of-sight issue (possible but not likely since both services come from basically the same part of the sky) ther is no hazard in using an existing mount for another dish. This is assuming that the new dish is the same size & weight as the old. An 18" D* dish mount may not be the best thing to use for a Dish 1000 due to differences in size, weight and wind loading issues. But a larger D* dish's mount should be able to handle the equivilent E* dish.

Where did you hear about this? It maks sense since E* is gearing up for 72 & 77 (these orbital locations started showing up in the point dish screen some time ago before anyone knew what was going on).

Maybe the old masts were screwed into a metal roof?? I don't know, just a guess.

Dish 1000.4 is already being used, Cleveland HD New Connects get the new Dish 1000.4, as well as 20 other DMA's. :icon_cool:icon_cool:icon_cool

Dish 1000.4 is already in use. Similiar to a Dish 1000.2, three DPP outputs, one input, 61.5W, 72.7W and 77W. :icon_cool:icon_cool:icon_cool
Well the guy wasn't able to reuse the mast plate. It wasn't insurance but the pole wouldn't fit. The hole in the plate was to big. Oh well.
