Hi, I have a question regarding if DirecTV will charge me for this service. When the technician came to install DirecTV, he disconnected all the existing wires that were connected to my Comcast service (except for 1 room which has Comcast internet). Now, I want to get Comcast internet in another room, but can't because he disconnected the line. If I call DirecTV about this, will they do it for free? Do it at all? Or should I call Comcast about this?

Any help is much appreciated! :)

It is best to call Comcast first, if they give you the run around call dtv, explain the issue and they will be then happy to reroll the tech out for a incomplete install, or do a damage claim for it

there should not be chrge unless this happened more then 90 days ago

Yeah, it was installed a while back...about 6 or so months. Would it really be a better idea to call Comcast? The DirecTV technician was the one who disconnected it; wouldn't it make sense to ask them to reconnect it? Maybe I should just call DirecTV to see for myself. I hope the fee won't be too much!

You gave your approval to use those lines right?

So now you'll either need to have DirecTv come out and do an additional outlet or comcast to do a relocate.

Or run that line yourself.

ditto. my thoughts exactly. It doesn't matter if he rolled away 5 minutes ago, you allowed him to use your existing cable.

Do you not need another modem if you run a second line? Get a wireless router?

When you say "Now I want to get Comcast internet in another room", do you mean you need to move or add a cable modem to the other location, or do you mean you simply need access to your existing internet service in the other room.

If you need to move or add a cable modem, then you need a coax line to that location.

If all you need is access to your existing internet service, then running a network (not coax) cable, or using wireless, is what you need to do.

The installer did the correct thing. You don't want unused live cable ends and unbalanced splitters stinking up your modem signal.

If the cables were labeled, you can reconnect it yourself.

Don't forget to label and disconnect the existing room when the transition is complete.
