RadioShack's Accurian HD Digital Radio Available

RadioShack Corporation announced the availability of an Accurian HD digital table-
top radio in more than 2,400 of its stores and online at http://www.radioshack.com/.

The Accurian HD Radio, model 12-1686, allows customers to discover free local
programming options on the "stations between stations" made possible by multi-
cast HD2 FM sub-station broadcasts. The radio also offers enhanced fidelity and
is priced at $199.99, but for a limited time is available for $174.99 after a mail-in
rebate which is available through Jan. 14.

The Accurian radio is designed with the same high-performance features of
comparable HD Radio models, but affordably priced to help make the new HD
Radio broadcast initiative available to more people.

The HD Digital Radio Alliance, a joint venture of leading radio broadcasters to
accelerate the rollout of HD Digital Radio, reports more than 1,000 radio stations
nationwide are HD Radio broadcasters, with more than 400 offering HD2
channels, with additional HD2 multicast channels going live each week.

The Accurian HD Radio has an LCD screen that provides things like song titles,
artist information, traffic alerts, stocks, sports scores, signal strength and station
frequency. The Accurian also features an amplified receiver, stereo speakers, a
tuner with 24 station presets, credit card-sized remote control, headphone jack,
LCD clock and AC power adapter.

Thanks for the info, but I was talking more about a separate tuner device that would hook up to your existing receiver without the speakers attached.
I hear you on that. It seems the manufactors are taking this HD Radio thing slowly even though there are tons of stations broadcasting.(at least in the Chicago area)

I know some of the higher end Home Theater Receivers have the tuner built-in.

I personally don't listen to much radio at home, mostly in the car. We are just now starting to see some aftermarket Car Radios with HD. I think at this time only BMWs high-end vehicles have it built-in.

I am hoping Automotive companies start including HD Radio. I will be in the market for a new car next year and would rather have a OEM radio in my car.

If I want crystal clear commercials I can turn on CBS HD and hear commercials in Dolby 5.1. Beat that dinosaur broadcasters!

Edsel, New Coke, AM Stereo, HD Radio
