I find these sports entertaining, but very rarely see them on TV. Just signed up for DTV, are there any channels that show them very often?
DirecTV Rugby
490 has Super 15 Rugby on now - all matches live in HD - no extra charge. They also cover Tri Nations, Currie Cup and NZ Cup. BBCA has Six Nations coverage, one live match per weekend. Fox Soccer Plus has English Premiership Rugby and Ireland/Scotland/Wales/Italy (don't remember the new name). Universal Sports carries the US team and IRB 7's. Sometimes there is coverage on the RSN's of the Australian Rugby League.

AFANA is the best source for Aussie Rules TV info. If you get the international dish, MHz Worldview has one AFL game each week (not live), plus a highlights show. You can pick this up over-the-air in some places MHZ Worldview Affiliates I don't think ESPN is doing any coverage this year. They had a few live matches last year including the Grand Final.

From AFANA:

(Update: 3/8/12: We have schedules now for TSN in Canada on our TV page. In Round 1 TSN2 will have Hawthorn v Collingwood and 3 more on TSN.ca: GWS v Syd, Rich v Coll, NMel v Ess. We don't have US scheds or network yet but you can assume the matches will be the same and you can guess the network. We will have more shortly.)
There is some hope.

Unless things have changed the following is true regarding the Australian Rules Football coverage in the USA.
MHZ worldview shows one game taped a week. This game is chosen from the ones that were available on ESPN3.com over the weekend. The delay may be up to as much as week before they show it.
espn3.com airs generally 3 games every weekend. Between ESPN2/ ESPN classic have a few games some live others delayed.
All games not aired via espn3.com or other espn networks live air at the following location.

That website is a mess. Just went and couldn't find any 2012 schedule. I'm sure it's there somewhere.

AFANA updated things last week.

Aussie Rules will be on Fox Soccer Plus in 2012, and 2013-14, assuming FSP sticks around that long. Typical coverage promised will be 2 live games per week, plus an hour long highlights show (which we haven't had in the US in probably 10 years or more!) So, if you have FSP for Rugby from Australia or for other reasons, you're in luck.

For me, after all the recent price rises, I'm not sure I want to add another $15 to my monthly bill. As FSP is a part-time HD channel, its not clear whether the Aussie Rules will be coming in HD or not. (Apparently not all games are broadcast in HD in Australia yet!)

BBC America also does some rugby, like the 6-nations cup.

I've mentioned this a couple times, but...

Set your DVR to record Friday's game at 2:30 AM Eastern time, or any of this weekend's matches on 490-1.

Whether or not you like rugby, you will be impressed by the quaity of the raw backhaul feeds of these games.

The picture is absolutely stunning.

And I love the rugby, too.

Thanks, D*.

Why do Channels 490-1 and 491-1 not show up on the HD filter in the channel guide? I almost always use the HD only filter on my channel guide and it's pretty frustrating these two channels don't show up and I have to switch to All channels.
