I generally don't watch daytime TV but wanted to move some "season shifted" shows over to my EHD. So a few minutes ago I went to do that and lo-and-behold. All three San Francisco/Oakland HD channels are yellow-screened and scheduled to be off the air until 4:00 pm. (the NBC affiliate is located in San Jose.) SD is still on.

There was a posting on the HDTV-in-SFbay Yahoo group indicating that the digtal transmitters on Sutro tower were going to be turned off today for a tower inspection. Dish must be getting their feeds via an OTA antenna.

This happens from time to time. They don't have room on the tower at other levels for backup digital antennas. So when the digital antenna area is being inspected (or crews are just moving by) they just have to shut off the digital broadcasts. They have backup antennas for the analog broadcasts so the analog broadcasts can stay active at all times. They will have backup up digital antennas after the Feb'09 transition happens.

Thanks for the info. I had heard that Direct viewers were getting the same message.

Of course, it's disappointing because I thought maybe Echostar Engineering had figured out how to solve the audio dropout problem.:(
Ah .. That's why I lost signal earlier today .. Mine were out around noon, though (DIRECTV). not sure about this afternoon as I had gone back to work.
