Sat installers no longer need license in Louisiana

It's old news, but I didn't see it anywhere else here.

Here's the SBCA press release:

Washington, D.C., July 14, 2008 -- The Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association (SBCA) today announced the Governor of Louisiana signed into law H.B. 1372, which provides for the abolition of the State Radio and Television Technicians Board.

The bill completely abolishes the board and all its licensing and regulating functions. Individuals installing satellite systems within the state will no longer be required to hold the television technicians license.

Prior to its removal, the board was responsible for administering the state licensing requirements for individuals installing satellite systems, as well as businesses that repair radios, televisions and related devices.

H.B. 1372 is a housekeeping measure designed to remove or alter the function of defunct or inactive boards, commissions, political subdivisions, authorities and like entities. In total, the bill affected 18 such entities.

The force of the bill takes effect August 15, 2008.

The Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association is the national trade organization representing all segments of the satellite industry. It is committed to expanding the utilization of satellite technology for the broadcast delivery of video, audio, data, music, voice, interactive, and broadband services. I am not sure which governor of the state did this: the current new governor or the last one but speaking from someone born and raised there, this may have been a result of Katrina because after the hurricane people were scrambling to get any service, dish or cable and the demand for new installs went thru the roof because most cable tv lines were down for months after the storm. People were hanging dishes on anything they could, literally. Now having just moved to Mississippi and having my dish put up on Friday, I can say if the man that did my install was licensed, the license and test are meaningless, as he left my system un grounded which of course I learned after he left.

FYI I used to live in 39466, and lightning got my c-band dish and two Directive receivers. I think that area has some kind of extra conductivity in the ground or something, I have never seen so many strikes strike ground than I saw there.

Here in Slidell its not nearly as bad.

YES, where we live is an open field of about 5 acres and when we get lighting activity, I get real nervous, pretty scary. :eek2: As for Slidell, we just moved out of there after 35 years, like you say, its not so bad there.

Huh, so they don't ground them you say, lazy or just don't want to get involved, ya think? The guy even mentioned it and opened the central a/c disconnect where he discussed hooking it to??:confused:
