I 95% sure it is at the 1.5 level.
As those that have tried to use externals have gotten better results setting those results to 1.5

As usual, I believe you are right on the money. Having tried both the 1.5 and 3.0 setups, only 1.5 works (and it works just fine with my 500GB Seagate).

Dumb question.....is the port on the HR20 SATA or eSATA ? I assume folks are buying external eSATA drives ?

That speed is set by the enclosure that you are using, so you would have to read it's manual, as each enclosure is different.

Its actually set based on the drive (and corresponding cable), not the HR20.

Either you have a 1.5 drive/cable setup or you don't - the drive documentation should tell you this information.

I need a "How to set up an eSATA drive for Dummies" Anyone know if there is any instructions on how to set it all up. Does the hard drive need to not be formatted.

Speed is set (on seagate drives, if capable of 3Gbps) by removing a jumper. Not all drives are capable of 3Gbps. Cabling doesn't matter when it comes to speed.

eSata cables are usually shielded.. hence the reason for the difference. You wouldn't want to use the unshielded cable outside of a computer case.. EMI/RFI could corrupt the data transmission.

While we're on the subject, has anyone tested to see if "Multilane" eSATA is supported with the HR20? What about "port multiplier" support? Or are they the same thing?
