Dang! That looks like a great deal for new subs - only requires an 8 month committment to AT50, according to their fine print. I don't know anything about them, but that's the lowest price for a 501 I've seen yet. And it's got nothing to do with the digital home plan. BTW, welcome to DBSTalk waxdonuts! :hi:

Guys,

this is one of echostars basic packages. There charging a $59 activation fee and getting you for an 8 month contract. You notice I said 8 months, because thats when there charge back period is over. I guarantee when ypou sign the agreement, it will say a year commitment with Dish. This is probably another one of those internet hacks that all of us dealers hate!

LOl .. From 1996 - about 2000, it was the internet dealers that put Echostar on the map.

It`s not hard to search the Newsgroups over the years and find horror stories about local dealers, although in fairness, that has changed for the better these days.

Hello Frapp,

I respectfully 100% disagee with you and so would most of the dealers if they could read your post.

Any dealer will tell you that if it was not for them, echostar would not be where they are today. Actually, most of the distributors will say this also because it is true. I don't know where you obtained your info from, but it is wrong. Echostar even renounces these idiot internet sales pitches because most of them are hacks, just like this one above.

Have a good day!

Echostar has currently built a strong nationwide association of local dealers and have a lot of control over them.

A few years ago it was not like that, the few "local" dealers that were around were left over from the DTV let`s steal programming gang and baby they were a real inspiration. Install mon - Fri and be in jail Sat/Sun ... LOL

Anyway, like you said, we differ on the subject, but since I was in it and in a huge way also, I just don`t see it the way you did.

Who will care a 100 years from now

TTT

(Not trying to insult the dealers here -> but many of us are willing to give up some customer service in exchange for price - some should not)

Has anyone used this place? Is the price valid?
How can they offer installation out of state?

Does anyone have any feedback about Satellite Depot. They are listing 501s for purchase at $59.99 plus shipping.

Seems too good to be true!

I've bought quite a bit of equipment for myself, family and friends over the internet with no problems. Particularly if you are reasonably sure of what you need and handy enough to do your own install and want to save a couple of bucks, the online dealers (or the big electronics stores for that matter) have the best prices.

If however, this is your first purchase and you need advice on setting up a system and want to "know your installer" before he/she shows up at your door, then a local dealer is great. And the local dealers have another edge in that if the stinkin thing doesn't work, you can go back to them, and they'll make it right.
