I have trouble playing Saturday Night Live over my networked dvrs. I play other shows from channel knbc 4 just fine and this is the only show that consistently has audio dropouts... data rate issues I believe. Is it possible that this show is somehow less data compressed in my market (Los Angeles).

Just curious if anyone else has had this problem?

You haven't posted the type of network you're using, "but":
I recorded the OTA SNL last night and had no problems "MRVing" it to my H25, using DECA.
While this wasn't the LA channel, it couldn't have been at a higher bit-rate, as it was MPEG-2

It seems likely that you're suffering from a network that isn't up to par. Any chance the HomePlug HR21 is involved?

Actually my network is listed right there in my signature line. SNL does record to my powerline adaptor DVR, which is indeed my slowest link. What confuses my though is that literally every other program (SD, HD, even off the same network) has zero trouble playing. Somehow something about SNL signal causes trouble, and this is a long time problem, every week, for as long as I can recall (SNL plays fine on the local DVR btw).

My only thought was that somehow this beams in at a higher data rate...
just thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone had any insight.

MPEG-4 "normally" has a lower bit-rate than MPEG-2 [OTA], but if there is a lot of detail constantly changing, it isn't as low as other HD programs.
It does seem to point to your powerline adapters as the problem.
These may be the worst for using MRV and only challenged by wireless.

Hmmm interesting abut the Mpeg 4 Mpeg 2 compression differences. I assume by "OTA" you mean the Over The Air Digital Local broadcast? I am actually recording the DirecTV rebroadcast of the local channels.

Yes I agree that if I had a straight Cat5 connection I probably would not have this issue.
There was a time during the CE pre release when many of the HD programs had this issue with that connection. Not anymore though. I just find it interesting that now, only SNL pushes it beyond it's limit.

I also had considered that maybe my powerline is less clean for some reason on sunday mornings (which is typically when I watch SNL) but the issue doesn't go away if I try to watch at another time.

It's a puzzler...
I know I could fix it by recording it on a different dvr or upgrading the network connection. Call it academic curiosity.

Several planets have to come into alignment but it seems clear that DIRECTV is cranking NBC during SNL. There isn't anything you can do to change what's going on so you would do well to either:

1. Upgrade the HomePlug HR21 to a more robust network media
2. Record SNL on a different DVR.

As for speculation, I would imagine that SNL is going up against shows that don't require much bandwidth so it is garnering the lion's share of bandwidth from the multiplexer.

I don't have any issues Houston KPRC 2 (HD) on my ethernet network, all boxes plugged into a Netgear switch
