So I have been watching these boards for some time now and finally decided to make the call!! I have been a customer for only one year now. I called and said I was interested in a HD DVR but I wanted to see if there was any felixiblity in the price of $199 for that. Well after a couple minutes on hold, I was told that they could give me a "instant rebate" in the value of $100. Which is awesome! Well then I asked about Dish Networks deal for 3 months of HBO and Starz for free... they agreed to honor that as well. So I am two for two now... Well then they asked me for payment right away... I asked if I could be billed for it and they came back at first stating "we dont do that anymore, but I will check if my supervisor can approve it". Well after a couple of more minutes on hold they also approved that. So I was three for three tonight! Score for me... especially since I got to see the premier of "Americas Team" on HBO's Hard Knocks.

Nice deal I hope you sleep better tonight!
I'm trying to work on a free DVR for my bedroom at no charge, any suggestions?

If you truly value the service, it shouldn't matter if it's free or discounted, as with the OP.

I would agree with that except you don't own the equipment any longer. I think it is ridiculous they charge a fee like this for any of their equipment. It isn't like it's a deposit either, you cut off the service they still keep your money and they get the box back.
You're getting this DVR for the bedroom, right? Look at your payment as buying it dinner, drinks and taking it to a movie first, before you expect any performance in your bedroom. That evening could easily cost you $99.
