I added my Bangor locals in sd as soon as they became available in April. I was able to retain both my out of market sd and hd channels.

Fast forward to 10 days ago, when DTV sent me a postcard asking me if I wanted to keep my out of market sd networks. So I checked the box and mailed it in.

Tonight I come home and my Bangor locals are all getting the "721" message. So I reset, and still nothing.

I call DTV and after they fool around with my residence address for a 1/2 hour, they then tell me that I can't have out of market hd and local sd. I can only have one or the other. This doesn't sound right to me. I was under the assumption you could have local sd and out of market hd until your local market hd became available, and then they would pull the out of market hd.

Is the CSR correct or is this a snafu on there end?

Much thanks for any and all responses.

The official FCC ruling regarding out of area HD reception is that you can have it if the local station is owned by the network.

So if you get local SD on ABC station, to get the NY or LA HD ABC feeds, your local ABC affiliate must be owned by ABC.

That way you are not theoretically siphoning advertising $$ away from one station owner to another since you would most likely always pick the HD feed.

But that they are giving you choice of local SD vs. out of area HD is unique. Your local affiliates want your eyeballs watching their station
