Had the hr20 for 1 month now. Just got the at9 installed 2 weeks ago from the 3 lnb. I now get searching for satellite on tuner 1 or 2 (771) whenever tuning to an hd local then it goes away 2 sec later. Had the dish re- aligned already.
What can I do?
Thanks

What are your signal levels on the 99-deg and 103-deg satellites?

I have 90% on 103 and 0% on 99. Dtv tells me sat 99 signal dosen't matter. I'm not too sure about that.
In addition to the searching for signal message I have a little breaking up of the pics on the local hd's.

Chimpo,
Until you mentioned the pixels on the locals I figured you might be having the known software problem. Once you mentioned that you described a problem I recently had. Mine started doing what yours is doing about 2 weeks ago. It would do that and stop. I had D* come out and they found a bad cable from the 110/119 lnb was bad. It stopped for a day and then the whole lnb went out. After D*replaced the 110/119 lnb the problems went away. I know the locals have nothing to do with that lnb but apparently it is tied into the 99/101/103 lnb. I hope I didn't confuse you because after reading back through this it could be confusing. :)

Even after the latest software update, I still have a problem with 99/103, no signal.

Tried second HR20 (happened to have a spare) and same deal. Changed cables, bypassed multiswitch, etc. etc.

Just called in for an installer to come out with new LNB and check cables on roof.

Had been working for a few weeks, then they just died.

This happened after 2 months with the 3 LNB dish a few years ago. Seems infant mortality is a crap shoot. But once you get past a few months, they seem to last.

With the install of the at9 the installer put in 2 new lines and left 2 7 year old lines. Just looked at the back of the hr20 and he had the old lines hooked up to it and the new 1's hooked to my tivo. So I swapped the lines and I will test it for a day and if it still does it I'll call tech support.

mine does the same thing... It seems like it's only on SD channels when either a recording is taking place on another channel at the same time or when you were on a SD channel when you started playing back a recording. - I've never had the problem on a HD channel (local or national) - but it has happened on the local PBS (which I think is SD but not sure)

I spoke with a tech over the phone and she told me to unplug the sat cables from the back of my box then unplug power to the receiver (both while receiver is on) then plugin the sat cables then power to the box. This seemed to fix it while I was on the phone and she told me that static can get in the cables much like air in a water hose.

But later in the day the problem started happening while my daughter was watching Sesame Street and I had a recording going on on HBO HD at the same time.

I just might have to call out a tech...

Chimpo,

Had the same problem. The DTV guy removed the B-band converters and ran the cables directly to the receiver. Fixed the problem. I read on this forum that they are not yet needed.

I am having a similar problem. The satelite signal stregths seem to vary based on the day and the tuner. My HD locals seem "grainy" most of the time and although I can get HD Locals, all other HD channels say searching for signal (771). Have swapped cables with no luck. All SD channels seem to work fine as well. Do you think this could be something with the dish install or the receiver, I hate to have to take another half day off for nothing.

The other interesting thing with mine is when I reset the H20 (pull the power plug and re-insert it) the HD channels in the 31-100 range (DiscoveryHD, HBO, etc) do not show up in the guide. Wait a while and some will eventually show up, but not all of them. These channels all worked when the tech installed the system, then one day I couldnt get any signals on any channel. That went away then the HD channels stopped working. Thoughts?

Thanks -

I am having this problem everytime the temperature gets in the lower 30's. I have had a tech out twice and we can't find the problem. I think the problem is in the 99/101/103 lnb as my Hughes sddvr40 is having the same reception issue. I could not convince tech of that becuase naturally he was getting a signal reading. If I call again this would be the 3rd tech visit in two weeks.

Chimpo,
Earl posted in another forum that Directv knew about this and was aware of it. Unless you are losing your picture I wouldn't worry about it.
You got a link to that??

Mine started doing the same thing & when I would reset it the only channels I would get was the HD channels.
They were the only ones showing up in the guides & favorites list.
They would slowly repopulate & I seem to have all the channels working now but I have a tech coming out tomorrow & would like to be able to tell him what the problem is.

The problem Earl reported was the issue of getting the "searching for signal" message popping up but the picture was still there. After a couple of posts from Chimpo and my own problems it was evident this was not the case. I am having the same problem you are having and I am going insist the tech coming today replace the 99/101/103 lnb. Whenever it gets into the lower 30's I start having the same problem both of you are. I am certain it is the lnb. The cables have all been check and the 110/119 lnb has been replaced. I will send Earl a PM and ask him to post in here.

Please let me know if the new LNBs help. I get your exact problems on one HR20, but my bedroom unit is fine. The local instal supervisor tech swears all lines are good & it's the units...been through 3...lol.

Change the dish type from 5 LNB to 3 LNB. :)

Had the same problem yesterday. I hit the reset button on the front of the unit and although it took about five minutes to restart the system I didn't get the message anymore. We'll see what today holds.

COntinuing to have this problem as well. Tech visit pending, but this error has essentially been ongoing since the update about 2 weeks ago so I'm not confident there is a wiring issue.
