It sounds like his IRD failed last night. Maybe the d/l was the trigger. Check the BBC at the back of the box. Sometimes this can happen when they fail. Switch it out. See what happens. That's where I would startjimbo56 said:Moderator: Please move this post if it's not in the correct forum. Thanks.
Here's the situation: last night I told my friend about the CE program and how to go about downloading the new software (he has an H20 receiver). When he attempted to d/l the software the receiver just said "Searching for Satellite Signal" - no "searching for new software", nothing. He left it that way overnight, and this morning the receiver was stuck on the same screen. I told him to reset the receiver and not press 0-2-4-6-8, but it still goes back to the "Searching" screen. He unplugged the receiver for about 10 minutes and restarted it, but same thing. I then told him to reset the receiver and press 0-2-4-6-8 to d/l the NR. This time he did get a "searching for new software" screen, but the progress meter never went above 0 %. Another reset, and again "Searching for Signal".
He called DTV and (after making him go through some diagnostic tests) they told him the problem was with the box and they will send him a new one which won't arrive until next Thursday, which doesn't make him too happy since he'll miss the football games tomorrow. I feel really guilty, since his box was working perfectly until I told him about the CE release.
Any ideas on what could have caused the problem and how to fix it ASAP? I find it hard to believe that the receiver simply became faulty when an attempt was made to d/l new software. There must be something else going on. Thanks for any help.
More information: I now realize that there was no CE release for the H20 last night, but, even so, wouldn't pressing 0-2-4-6-8 simply have re-downloaded the NR software?
Also, his receiver is not the H20-600 model that is being recalled for sudden failure (confirmed by DTV during his call to CS).
