I just talked with a very nice customer service representative at D* from retention (1-800-824-9081). I was able to get my 2nd HR20 for $99 and then they credited that amount back to my D* bill. The person I spoke with also included 6 months of HBO for $2 as well.

Supposedly the $99 "swap out" has been in place on retentions end since September 13th. Their "swap out" is still allowing you to keep the HR10-250 as well!

So far I have been pretty happy with my HR20 - As a TIVO junkie, there a few things I had to get used to on the user interface. The SuperFan parts were awesome this past Sunday (just wish that CBS would broadcast all of their games in HD). Still waiting on the OTA to be activated but not a big issue on my end.

Only bad part of the second HR20 - they have to deliver it (even with having the AT9 dish installed and the lines already ran to the room)... though again something I can live with as well for free.

Thanks for this tip. I just got my second HR20 for free (charge/credit back) by calling that number; I also get to keep my HR10, since it is "obsolete". Very nice.

Just told them I had been with D* for a long time (over 10 years) and that would like a second HR20 for a HDTV that I had. Didn't have to do much twisting to get it :hurah:

That's pretty much what I did as well. A word of caution, though: don't celebrate until the thing is installed, and you've seen the credit on your bill. Them agreeing to give me a free HR20 a month ago marks the last time was happy with them. It took hours on the phone over multiple occasions, and as of yet all I have is my credit, and I had to get them to agree to that 3 times before it really happened -- every other time they screwed up. Because of how badly they screwed things up, I got caught in the HR20 shortage and it'll be at least a couple of weeks before I have my second one installed. I sent off a scathing email outlining the whole saga to DirecTV yesterday, and am now awaiting a "specialist" to contact me. At first I was hesitant to complain because I was getting it for $20, but at this point I have paid for it at least once over in time and aggravation -- I think in the end I should have just paid cash...

Hopefully most other people haven't had these issues, though.

About a week after the install I went into my account to change my programing and noticed that they were charging me the $299 in 3 payments of $99.66, after 2 hours on the phone with D* I was back in retention and they credited my account the $250.00 they wanted to do it $25 a month over 10 months and after nicely explaining that I did not appreciate having to make a call to correct their "mistake" and spend 2 hours doing this and being transfered 6 times, they gave me the credit in a lump sum.

I also received two HR20's for the price of one. I am waiting to upgrade the second tv to HD so for now I am just downconverting everything. And yes, Retention was whom I worked with.

I told the CSR the truth - that I have had no problems with the HR20 & like it very much (apologies to everyone having problems), but that they can have my HR10 when they pry it from my cold, dead fingers. I have no intention of weathering the big freeze that will follow me telling my wife that TiVo is gone from our house; she is not a fan of the HR20 GUI yet, and it could take years for her to warm to it, blazing speed or no.
