Is it possible to controll one HR20-700 with two RC34 remote controllers?

I have two RC34 controllers (a friend of mine gave the second controller) I need both controllers because the HR20-700 is splitted into two tv´s. One is in the top floor and the other one is in the kitchen. So if I want to change channels I have to take the RC from the living room to the kitchen and vice versa. So a friend of mine gave me a spare controller. But the second controller doesn´t do anything to the HR20-700 it doesn´t respond to any command.
The RC34 has new batteries and when I push a button the green led lights up, so that isn´t the problem.

Do you know what can I do to use both controllers for the same HR20-700

Regards

Is your receiver currently set up in the RF mode?

If not you need to go into the system menu and select "Remote" to change it over to RF, follow the on screen instructions.

But FIRST you need to find your receiver ID number by pressing the "-" dash button on the remote, the button under the 7 button.

Then AFTER you set the receiver up for RF mode,
1. Press and hold the MUTE and SELECT keys until the green light flashes twice and release both keys

2. Enter 9 6 1 using the number keys, the green light flashes twice

3. Press the CHAN up key, the green light flashes twice

4. Enter the six digits you got above when you pressed the dash button

5. Press the SELECT key, the green light flashes twice

You're done.

You will need to do this for both remotes if they are not currently set up for the RF mode.

OK here´s the deal.....the other remote RC34 that was from my friend, I don´t have it anymore. So I went to best buy and bought a RC64. But here is when my misunderstanding started. They sell two kind of RC64 remotes, one that comes without a little antenna and the one that comes with the little antenna. The price difference is 30 dollars so I decided to buy the "cheap" one, the one that doesn´t come with the antenna. The geek squad couldn´t answer me correctly if this controller would work with RF!

So I decided to buy it but when I got home I couldn´t make it work RF just IR! SO I was wondering if I need to change it for the one that comes with the little antenna....I want to control one HR20-700 with two controllers via RF. I have one RC34 working excellent via RF but the new one doesn´t work. How can I make them work via RF both of them? Or I should buy the other one? Or what is the difference?

I already made the procedure "mute select" and all that procedure, it doesn´t work RF!

Can you help me!

The antenna is for use with receivers which are RF capable but don't come with a built-in antenna so they aren't needed for the HR20-700. You do need the RC64R (or RC64RB), since the RC64 is IR-only. You can order them from Directv via their website.

Thank you for your response, so I will have to change the RC64 for an RC64R. I hope Best Buy can change it although it is already opened!

Thank you, regards

I would recommend using directv.com to order the remote. The RF remote on their website is only $25, and the shipping is $5 (iirc). The last one I ordered showed up in 3 days.

I already went to BB and change the RC64 for a RC64RB (the one that comes with the little antenna) I made all the procedure to program the remote (beginning of this thread), but I still can´t make it work!

I have an Hr20-700 with an RC34 working RF flawlessly! I want to add another controller but the new RC64RB doesn´t work RF! It works IR but no RF. The HR20-700 is in RF mode (I´m using it with the RC34). For the new RC64RB I already tried the code 00001 and 00002 and resetting the controller and it still doesn´t work. Do you know if I´m doing something wrong? or is there a special code for the new controller? or maybe the RC64RB isn´t compatible in RF mode with the HR20-700?

I also tried to install the little antenna but the HR20-700 doesn´t have an input so I can insert that antenna. The only input I saw was "off air antenna" but i´m pretty sure that it isn´t for the RF antenna.

Any suggestions? or procedure that I´m missing?

With the receiver and first RF remote in RF mode, leave them alone and do the following on the second RF remote:

1. directv device
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks
3. enter 0 0 0 0 1

4. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks
5. enter 9 6 1
6. press CH UP
7. enter the last 6 digits of the Receiver ID #(RID), found on a sticker in the access card compartment
8. press SELECT

Sorry guys if I´m annoying, but I already follow the steps that Edmund wrote (is the same that I was doing yesterday going through the Remote Control User Guide), and I still can´t control the directv with this RC64RB.

I followed the steps exactly, the remote control blinks twice and it apparently does what the guide says, but I still don´t have any luck programing it.

I´ve repeated this steps and nothing happens, I also "reset" the RC64RB as factory default and started again and nothing. The only thing that it´s coming to my mind is to "program" the RC with the HR20 turned off because I always have it on to "program" it. Any other suggestions?

The strange thing is that the RC34 is working excellent via RF, so I don´t understand!!!!

I recall when I was setting up my RC64RB with my HR20 that I somehow got into a state where the receiver would not respond to the remote. I got it working by going to the receiver's Setup->Remote page, changing the receiver back to IR mode (temporarily), verifying that the remote worked now, then following the on-screen procedure to change remote and receiver back to RF mode.

Thank you Greg....I have done that, but I will repeat this step when I get home.

I have been searching for some troubleshooting in the internet, I haven´t found any diferences on ideas that the ones that you guys have given me.

I also will try to reset the HR20 to see if this does something different!

I already reset the Hr20 700 to IR. I programmed both controllers to IR mode (the RC34 and RC64RB) both worked perfectly in IR mode.

The next step, I configured the RC64RB with the on menu commands to RF, and it didin´t work. I configured the RC34 with the same on menu command and it worked RF mode. I don´t know what´s happening! :nono:

Do you have any suggestions?

Regards
