I just read a post on a sports related bulletin board that said with the newest software upgrade on D*'s HDDVR you can now select a "secondary local area" and receive their locals as well. So theoretically I could receive my Atlanta locals but also receive locals from Kansas City, or Columbus, OH or Des Moines, IA, etc. I've never heard anything about this, and can't believe that it's true. Has anyone heard anything at all about this?

No, it isn't true.

The "secondary local area" is in case you can receive locals living between two markets and need to get both sets of local channels in the guide.

I have the DirecTiVo in HD, and that is the function I use to load the DC and Baltimore HD locals into the guide.

If you could, guide me to the post at the sports board that you are discussing. I could figure out what is going on if I see it.

You must be referring to the HR10, that allows you to receive 2 markets via OTA. When the HR20 is finally enabled for OTA you should be able to set it up for 2 markets also. Certain markets do overlap and these customers may get locals in SD for those markets via satellite, but it depends on many factors and your zip.
