I'm assuming just by the way this forum seems to work that the people developing the software for the HR20 are actually using information derived from bug reports here to develop and improve the product. If this is incorrect, please let me know.

That said, it seems like most posts fall into three areas:

Bugs, Glitches and Failures
Lockups, blank recordings, nonfuctional MPEG4 transport controls... things that should work but are broken.

Unfinished Functionality
Over-the-air reception, external SATA support and interface sound effects.

Questionable Features and Design Choices
Slow FF, REW and 30s slip speeds, pressing GUIDE twice to actually get the guide, and devoting only six lines to the guide and VOD lists.

As for the first two areas, I would report bugs if all of the ones I've noticed hadn't already been reported by someone else; and I have to accept that unfinished features will be finished at some point.

What I'd like to know, however, is whether there is any point talking about the things that aren't technically broken. Is DirecTV open to suggestions about the HR20's functionality, or are they trying to keep it as similar to the R15 as possible for the sake of uniformity and customer support?

Personally, I would like the FF speed to be faster, and I would like the first GUIDE press to bring up the guide and the second press to bring up the filter, and I would like the onscreen lists to have more items... but is there any point bringing up the things that I would like? Are these things decisions that DirecTV has deliberately made and aren't open to suggestions on?

If there is no chance of these things being changed, I won't belabor the issues.

Absolutely. If enough people say they want feature X, D* will certainly listen. Many people have voiced their desire for dual buffers, and as a result of so many people asking for it, it seems like D* is actually looking into a way to implement this.

Suggestions for improvement for the HR20 are just as important as reporting bugs. Keep those suggestions and ideas coming.

I think a suggestions Sticky Thread would be a great idea. Even a sticky poll that includes some of the major suggestions that people have for this system.

A few weeks back we had a thread with all the suggestions for new features.

I am looking to create a website ,w here people can rank/vote on which features they would like to see, and in the "order" they would like to see them.

Sadly... Real life has taken a front seat, and has been using up most of my free time.

Why don't we start a new thread, asking for the suggestions to be included in the poll. Then if and when you get a chance to do a web site, you can transfer the data?

We already have a pretty exhaustive list.... I'll just need to find that thread (or someone else), and bump it back to the top

Earl, I'm the one who turned that wish list into an MS Word doc for you... it was 4 pages long, if memory serves. I'm not sure how we could get a ranking on so many wish items.

Yes, I remember you doing it.

Hence why I wanted to create a website for it, so you can "rank" them with a value (kinda similar to confidence picks in football each week),

And do the same on what order you would like to see your choices done.

It is outside the metrics of just a simply poll.

I wouldn't mind giving webspace for it, but I don't know how to do the coding of the metrics of which you speak, I'm afraid.

I could help with some coding. I do a lot of PHP and MySQL here at work. I also maintain a website that could be used if needed. What I don't have is (1) the list and (2) the concept that Earl wants to see.
