Sensing state on the R15

If all you are trying to do is to synchronize on/off state, R15 has three remote codes to define state: toggle, on and off. You can program the universal remote to use the on and off commands to resolve the uncertainty issue.
It has discrete IR codes? Sweet. I found a thread in 2005 asking that question, when I searched but it never got a response.
