Separate dish for 99 and 103?

For various reasons that aren't relevant here, I can't mount either version of the AT9 at my house, so I have a single LNB dish (that's being swapped out for a three LNB version tomorrow). Do they make small dishes that will pick up 99 and 103, so I could add one and have the same capability as the AT9?

No. The only dishes that receive the Ka-band signals from the 99 and 103-deg satellites are the 5-LNB AT9 and SlimLine dishes.

Can you elaborate on why you can install a 3-LNB dish but not a new 5-LNB? Check out the new SlimLine 5-LNB dish if size/weight are the problem.

Wow, quick response, even though it's the middle of the night! I was afraid the answer to my question would be no-- guess I'll just have to get by with the three LNB and OTA for the local HD programming.

The problem with the AT9 is a combination of weight, and line of sight being compromised by a Palo Verde tree. According to the installer, the mounting sites that are high enough for line of sight can't support the weight, and the sites that can support the weight are too low for line of sight (as are the standard pole mounts).

I'll get a second opinion from the guy that's going to install the three LNB tomorrow (and ask him about the Slimline). I could cut down the offending tree if I really wanted an AT9-- but it blocks the view of our hot tub from the neighbors, so we don't want to do that!

Definitely get that second opinion, 99 is 2 degrees to the left of the 101 that you are receiving,103 is 2 degrees to the right of 101 and to the left of 110. If they can mount a Phase 3 you will be able to get 101/103/110 & 119 the only missing sat would be 99 and that is probably also available but the installer didn't want to install a 5 LNB satellite.:)
I fully agree that if you can get a 3-LNB to work you should certainly be able to get a 5-LNB to work.

Another option would be to use two of the AT9 dishes. Litzdog911 did that - one for 99/101/103 and the other for 110 and 119 - also because of tree issues. It is a rather tricky install, because what you have to do is cross connect two of the LNB's from one dish to the other dish, then run the four lines from that dish down into your house.

Here's the information on combining two AT9 dishes mounted at different locations ....

For this to work you need one location with a clear view of 99/101/103-deg satellites, and another location with clear view of 110/119-deg satellites.
Well, the installer just left and after much discussion of options, I went ahead with the original plan to just replace the single LNB dish with a three LNB dish.

He agreed with the first installer that he couldn't mount the AT9 or the Slimline at the same location as my present dish. While the Slimline is smaller than the AT9, the mounting hardware is the same, so there's not a big weight advantage. My present dish is mounted on a mast that I had installed when the house was built, and is very sturdy-- and while he could use that mast with the three LNB, he wouldn't be able to use it with an AT9. He couldn't install a new mast on the house due to company restrictions on installing them on stucco walls, my tile roof is unsuitable for a roof mount, and there are just no other mounting sites on the back of the house that would work.

Unlike the previous installer, though, he did give me a couple of alternatives: a tall pole mount, or a mounting on the flat roofed garage on the north side of the house (the pitch of the roof behind the garage would still allow line of sight to the satellites).

Neither alternative is particularly appealing. My wife doesn't want the pole mount because of the aesthetics; mounting the dish on the garage on the front of the house means finding a way to get the wiring back to my existing prewire setup on the rear. He said they'd just run the cables over the roof, but that's a little too Rube Goldberg for me.

I'll live with the present three LNB setup for awhile and see how it goes. I'm still waiting on an HR20, if I get that and they activate OTA on it soon, I should be in pretty good shape.

In another thread, someone mentioned cutting up some PVC pipe to make a shim between the 1-5/8 in mast used for single and 3-LNB dishes and the 5-LNB dish mount.
You can buy a shim also, SS carries them.

If your mast is strong enough, either try the PVC trick or get one of those and have them install the 5 LNB dish.
Thanks, guys, those are good suggestions!
Could one of those shims be used to adapt an existing 3LNB roof mount to accommodate a 5LNB or are they exclusively for ground pole mounts?
It will fit on an existing mount. The question is, will the mount be rigid enough? I suppose one could add some struts (monopoles) to stiffen things up.
