I have a few series recordings where I tape the same show on different channels (because I like the reruns and want to get more episodes).

The problem is that if I go to the Prioritizer it shows that one of my Series recordings of NCIS has no upcoming recordings. (I find this very odd since I've only had the unit for 2 days now.)

Anyway, aside from going to search, searching for NCIS and then looking for the red record icon, is there any other easier way to tell which of the two channels is at what priority?

Also, is there any FAQ's on picking recordings? The conflict resolution system I have about half figured out but I'd be more comfortable reading something rather than using my best guesses.

Also, are there any PDF manuals that are worth reading? The two books that came with the unit are almost worthless. Yes. I do read manuals!

the prioritizer will only show entries for a show if it is going to record it. so if two higher priority shows are in that same time slot (or one show if you are only using one tuner) the prioritizer entry for NCIS is going to show "none scheduled". these things aren't populated immediately, so even if you move NCIS to the top of the priority list, its not going to immediately change from "none scheduled" to "2 episodes". if it were me i would set up a title based search for NCIS, find it on the channel you have the problematic series link tied to, see what date/time it airs... then search your "to do list" for that date/time and see what 2 programs might be in that same time slot causing the conflict (or one 1 show if you're only using a single tuner).

does that make sense?

Yes. Thank you for explaining. I guess it's not like the R10 that recalculates the recordings if you change series priorities.

Do you know of any good posts for hints and tips about recording series? I'm learning day by day but I'm making my fair share of best guesses as far as how things work as well too.

i don't know of any off-hand.... you just need to be patient with this box (especially tough for me ;)). i just ran into a situation like yours that might help you a bit more.

i had series links set up for Law & Order:SVU, Smith and Boston Legal. there were in that order in my prioritizer. I missed the first two episodes of Boston legal because all three of these shows are all in the Tuesday 10pm-11pm time slot. i was fine with that and there was nothing i could do. earlier this tuesday evening (probably 7-8pm) i read that smith had been cancelled. i went into the prioritizer and deleted my series link for smith. i checked the prioritizer a few minutes later and it still hadn't populated the boston legal entry with episodes yet..... a few hours later it finally picked it up and started adding the into the to do list.

so while it works on the same principle as the R10 (as you mentioned as an example)... it doesn't appear to index/reindex as quickly as the DTiVo units.

I was able to set a series link to three progrmas on NBC with no problems. That means I'm doing it right. When I tried to series link Battlestar Galactica, it would not recognize it as a series. When I clicked record once the "R" appears. When I clicked record a second time the "R" disappeared.

I called D and finally got to second level support. They had me do a hard reset, which means I lost all recorded shows and existing series links.

I had to wait until this morning until the Guide had info and then it worked.

I miss my Tivo interface.

Hey, everybody, newbie here.

Okay, today I had my DirecTV TiVo replaced with an HR-20, and I anticipated some teething problems. I mean, no new piece of equipment ever gets integrated into my house without at least SOMEWHAT of a learning curve. But, I have to say, I'm hating this new DVR, and most of my problems come from trying to setup Series Links (I miss calling them Season Passes). First off, why can't there be a Series Link Manager, where you can view of the shows you have setup as a series link? Secondly, why can't it be easier to see if a show is going to record or not? For example, my wife loves Judge Judy. So, I went in and saw that there are two episodes of it per day on our local channel. One at 4PM, and the other at 4:30PM. So, I pulled up the first one and set it to record all showings of the show on that channel. But, when go look at the upcoming episodes, only the 4PM show has the (R)))) next to it. The 4:30 is showing nothing. Does that mean it isn't going to record? Lastly, how do you cancel a series link?

DirecTV, please create a Series Link Manager menu option where you can do all the things I've listed.

Anyway, I hope I can work through this, because I've got a second one coming in two weeks for the living room, and I don't want to still be floundering in the dark when it hits.

Thanks for any information anyone can provide.

The "Series Link Manager" is called "Prioritizer" and can be accessed from the same screen that shows your To Do List. While it updates the priority instantly, compared to the incredibly L-O-N-G wait of a TiVo DVR that has more than half a dozen programs scheduled, it takes awhile for the shows to actually get updated, sometimes a day or more, depending on how long it's been since the machine has rebooted.

My problem with the Prioritizer is that you can only see about 5 or 6 shows even though there's an awful lot of wasted screen space.

all of these questions about a SL manager, to do list, how to set up a series link, etc.... would all be answered if you sat down and read your manual.
