I have a series link for Heroes in the DC locals market. It did not record correctly last night for me (unwatchable recording). I'm wondering how prevalent this was since I've seen a number of posts this morning complaining about Heroes.

Please don't gripe about the box in this thread. If you did/did not experience a problem with Heroes please let me know what locals market you are in.

10 yes, 1 no. Your poll doesn't look so good. ;)

OK, given the results so far it just looks like my box (and maybe a handful of others) had a problem with it. I really wonder what causes this bug?
And that is the million dollar question.

Is that the reward for figuring it out? ;)
That would be nice. We could split it three ways. :p

Check your active custom lists to see if your NBC MPEG4 channel is "Available" or "Removed" I missed one recording because, while the SD channel was available, the HD channel had been removed and my Series Link was on the removed channel. The show apparently attempted to record, but showed up as partial in the history.

Does anyone else think this might have to do with the guide data? Maybe a typo or extra space is throwing the HR20 off. I don't know how this stuff gets to D* but isn't it possible that it comes to them from different sources and different people are having problems because of it?

There are those who say that certain programs (Jericho has been mentioned) only have more missed recordings because more people are recording it in the first place. Maybe, but to me it's just as possible that typos which are easy for humans to see past are throwing HR20 off the scent.

Any thoughts, anyone?

Hmm, well I think if it were something like that than everyone's HR20 would screw up the recording. I think in this case the problem is probably caused by some combination of factors unique to each person's HR20 (recordings setup, tuner activity, etc.). That is why it records fine for (dare I say) the majority of people and why some people are having problems with some shows.

I think there is merit in the assessment that the more 'popular' shows will have "more" recording problems - simply because there is more opportunity for these shows to NOT record correctly. Unpopular shows might still screw up, but the number of people attempting to record them is low, so there will be a low incidence of missed recordings.

I know that guide data comes from a lot of sources, like the network, local affiliates, etc, and from different scheduling programs (and believe it or not, Microsoft Word documents). It could actually be different from market to market. Just a thought.

Recording is no issue for me in Portland, OR. I had a small glitch at playback. In the midway, the video started breaking and froze after a couple seconds. I pressed stop button and select play again and it played back the same show without further problems. I have seen this issue three times since 0xEB update. I never had this issue before.

Exactly, I think the unwatchable and partial bugs are independent of what is being watched, but when you have a large sample set watching the same show, you may see a higher number of incident reports. I have experienced both bugs on SD, HD mepg2 and mpeg4. There appears to be no correlation to what is being recorded, but there is something that happens at very start of the creation of the recording, and if that happens that recording is toast.

After my experience last night I think that the Partial and Unwatchable bug and 2 different presentations of the same bug.

Heros recorded for only 10 minutes last night and I have the usually reliable HR10. The two weeks before that it recorded fine until the last seconds and cut off just before the shows ended.
