Service call for dish realignment

I posted in another thread recently that I wasn't receiving the HD channels that are coming from 99 (TNTHD, ESPN2 I think, and a few more), and my signal strengths are all 0 on 99(c) and 99(s). Other channels/signal strengths are fine. After RBR and unplugging overnight I called DirecTV and they said I need a service call to align my dish. They told me I either have to pay $80 for a one-time call, or sign up for the protection plan for a year ($6/month) and pay $20 for the service call.

My question is, I've skimmed through a lot of threads and see a lot of people talking about techs coming out to fix their dish alignments, but no one says anything about having to pay. Is that because most of you have the protection plan? Or are people somehow getting free dish-alignment service calls even without the protection plan? I'm not one of those people who wants everything handed to me for free, but I find it annoying to suddenly have to pay $80 for someone to come and realign our dish.

Any suggestions?

payment details are simply being omitted
Why is it DirecTV charges $80 for Dish alignment and $50 for a Dish move? Do they move a dish and then not align it after?

Not really. but the amount of relocate ODUs is relatively small. I guess it is also a way to entice people to get the PP.

79.95 and 49.00

79.99 is a flat fee for any work, alignment at 49.00 would not cover any other work which might be needed.
As posted in your other thread, it's probably not alignment that you need. They don't replace LNB's for free unless you have the PP.
OK, thanks. Especially if it's likely a bad LNB, it seems clear that it's worth the extra $12 to get the PP.
I received a call from DirecTV about a month and a half ago, saying something along the lines of "we're receiving signals back from your dish/receiver that something is wrong." They went over a couple of things on the phone, had me check signal strenthgs, etc., then offered to send somebody out to check on my dish, free of charge. They said I had to accept the offer right then and there, because if I called back and they sent someone they would charge me the $80. So I set up an appointment, but I ended up having to cancel at the last minute, and didn't re-schedule because I'm moving in three weeks anyways, and at the time I didn't really have big issues. Although I wish I had re-scheduled, because I'm now having some serious issues getting a signal on some channels and lots of interference on others.

Anybody else have this offer extended to them?
