SES Americom is acquiring approximately 20 percent of Florida-based Internet Satellite Platform, or ISAT, a provider of satellite-based Internet connection solutions for ISPs, data CLECs and rural cable operators.
Terms of the investment were not disclosed.
ISAT's ISP-based services in North and South America are sold as a wholesale offering. They will be supported by Americom's hybrid AMC-6 satellite located at 72 degrees West, which delivers high-powered Ku-Band coverage of North America. Launched in 2000, AMC-6 is the fifth hybrid in Americom's fleet and is optimized to serve enterprise, Internet/ISP, VSAT and media markets.
ISAT's platform offers a private label, one-stop solution to service providers interested in providing broadband Internet access in areas that are not covered by terrestrial infrastructure. In addition to providing the service delivery functionality, ISAT offers a billing and fulfillment platform, accessible by service providers through the Internet.
