Setting up at campsite

A basic 1-LNB dish can shoot through a pretty narrow slot in the trees, but there does have to be a slot. You need about 2-3 degrees of totally clear sky in the right direction.

Just punch in the zip code where you are and it will give you the elevation and (magnetic) azimuth, so bring a compass.

If you drive out of the spotbeam, you'll lose your local channels. For us, that means out of northern California.

Use an inverter that has a higher output (wattage) than what your TV and receiver will draw. Wattage is posted on back of electronics. I use a 400 watt inverter mounted in my van (van battery) to recharge cordless tools and a 750 watt to power a 20" TV and satellite receiver (deep cycle). With the deep cycle I can run for 3 days doing demos (TV, Satellite receiver, and boom box) before a recharge. If you use car battery, be sure to disconnect electronics before starting the engine. My inverters have a low battery alarm but don't trust them!

The OP may actually enjoy tv and would like to bring something he enjoys on his little getaway. Did you ever think of that?

I thinks its quite apparent that the OP enjoys TV very much; but i'm entitled to think its dumb.
