Setting up series links

799 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  walters
I am just starting to use the R-15. My question is about setting up a series link. I set it up to record The O'Reilly Factor each night. Now it is recording 3 shows per day. I only clicked on the prime time show but it set up recording times for the prime time, late night, and wee hours showings.

I cannot figure out how to limit this to the prime time show only. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
John

The best solution for a show like this is probably a recurring manual recording (i.e. "such-and-such channel every M-F from 7pm to 8pm"). A show like this may never have guide data detailed enough for a DVR to know that one is a reshowing of another.
Thanks, that's a good idea. I guess then that it is working the way it is supposed to work.

Thanks again,
John
One of the options for a SL is first run/repeat. Specify first run, and it should (should, being the operative word here) only pick the first time a show is run. On many channels, the R15 has issues in distinguishing between first runs and repeats (and FNC is definitely one of those channels) - it determines first run/repeat based off (from what I understand) the guide data supplied. Also as a default, your SL will be created as first-run only.

Like I mentioned, though, this functionality isn't working right on the R15. So, you specify something as 'first run only' and it still records every episode. The good news is that it appears to have gotten better lately (mine no longer picks up every rerun of The Simpsons), and the next s/w release (coming soon) supposedly takes care of this problem further.

As Walters mentioned, though, some shows just have so little guide data that it may never be fixed for those shows (the Factor probably being one).
I was specifying 'First Run' but I was getting all occurances which included the first run and two repeats per day. I'll use the manual method for a while and try the 'First Run' method again later. The manual method is not that big of deal.

Thanks,
John
I had the same problem and went to a manual record to take care of it. What sucks is that you can't name a manual record. If you have 10 of them, they'll all show as Manual Record in the MyVOD.

It doesn't capture the name of what was actually playing when it was recorded? Man, that sure is stupid.
