Should I sell 6000 now and wait for 921?

Was watching the tech chat and the 921 should be released late this fall. I'm assuming a pricetag of atleast $600. Seeing as this is how much the 6000 is going for now, should I just sell it and save the money for the 921? The techchat did not mention whether the 921 would have OTA receiving/recording capabilities.

pretty sure it will have those capabilities..

as to what to do: you are in charge on that...the question is - can you sell it / will someone want it / and if so - for how much?

in addition - 921 will definatly be better machine - only makes sense with it being New Model

Really? I read (somewhere on this forum) that the 921 will not have OTA capabilities. That is pretty much the biggest problem I will have with the 921.

I was confused with the difference between the JVC 9000 and the 921, whats the difference???

I did read somewhere that the 9000 is gonna be around the $1000 mark, so save your pennies!

Presumably the 921 would be near that.

If they are selling the 6000 still for $599 + modules, you can bet the 921 will be somewhat more in the least.

This may cause the street value of the 6000 to drop a tad, but a 6000 with both modules should stay in the $500-600 range even after these new receivers come out.

Some people will feel it worth it to sell and pay $400 more for the new receivers, others will settle for the 6000 until the price drops. But it seems that Dish keeps their receiver prices rock steady over time.

My guess is that we're at least 6 months away from either the JVC 9000 or the 921, so if you're happily watching HD now, I'd hold onto your 6000. If you bought your 6000 in anticipation of HD, and are not currently watching it, then sure - go ahead and sell now. You'll probably get a little more for it now than 6 months from now. There are a lot of rumors about the 9000 and the 921 not having OTA locals capability, but I suspect that they will have either the 8vsb tuner built in or it will be offered via an add on module like the 6000 has today. Dish isn't going to abandon HD OTA when all of the Directv HD receivers have it.

The rumor right now is that the 921 will cost around $2000 but that is not confirmed.

That's insane! That's more than the JVC D-VHS deck costs. Who will want to pay $2K for that? Personally I hope it goes for around $500-600 with $800 being the max I can pay. New customers probably will be able to get it for around $400.

Keith, will we still need to use the current 8VSB module/cartridge or will the OTA decoding be done internally on the 921?

I cant imagine the 921 being any less than $999 and possibly much more. Thats because of the price of HD decoding chipsets still being very high due to low demand. You also have to handle 8PSK, 4PSK, and 8SVB, thats a lot of chips. Right now you pay $599 + $199 + $99+ for the same capabilities in the 6000.

NOW add:
- PVR 120GB
- Dual Tuner (dual HD tuning capable?? need ANOTHER set of chips!)
- Digital video outputs
- USB stuff
- new software

Forget it.... now I say it will be well over $1000

If they make the OTA 8VSB module optional, the price can come down a bit.

Yeah, just let us plug our existing 8VSB modules from our 6000's in if we want to.

I would keep the 6000 until the 921 comes out, but if it is going to be $2,000 then I cant see very many people at all buying it, and I dont think they would try to market such a high priced receiver.

Think about it, for the money, would you rather buy a HD big screen tv or a receiver that could record the HD programming like a pvr service? You could buy a recordable dvd player for cheaper than this, and there are not that many HD channels out there, so this would be for the most ultimate tv viewer with lots of money to spend.

There would not even be enough sold to make up for the cost of making them, seeing that there has to be mass production to keep costs down, am I right?
