What the heck is going on? I change a channel and count to 10 before anything changes on the screen. When the current channel finally goes away, it's another 10-20 seconds of black screen until the new channel comes up.
Pressing info on the channel - nothing happens.
What gives?

I had a dose of this a couple of days back, but it wasn't the channel changing but instead going into/out of the guide or menu.
I cleared the NVRAM and resolved it, but have been told that just changing to channel 1 [which you need to do for clearing the NVRAM] was what did it.

Am I not suppose to get "NVRAM Cleared" after doing that (red-red-blue-blue-yellow-green)? The message I received on the lower-right corner was English...
The NVRAM Cleared message appears on the left side of the screen and is difficult to see sometimes because it overlaps the info on the CI channel.

It's not even worth complaining about anymore. Obviously having receivers that consistently and constantly respond is not something DirecTV is interested in. Why that is I'm not sure.... but DirecTV has had software problems off and on (more on if you ask me) since they released the HR20 and it continues through all the models including the latest and greatest HR34. Maybe it will get better in the future but no doubt it will be temporary bliss for a short while until they screw it up again... then fix it then screw it up again and repeat...

I'll be sending my two HR22s back to them later this month... They are nearly useless and such pieces of junk even the kiddies are tired of using them. I'll continue to use my 3 HR24s for now... But I've already changed my package to a minimum and I will hopefully be cutting the cord completely in the not too distant future.

Between playing roulette in the game of 'will the receiver respond?' each time you pick up the remote, wondering if Dolby Digital will work through my Denon, the annoying inconsistent FFWD over MRV, the over-priced packages and general lack of something to watch makes it just not worth the cost to us anymore.

Ah, I feel better now.....

This remote response issue is very old and very irritating. Couple that with audio/video glitches and it is just getting more so.

Strangely, no matter how much the 2 HR24s I use directly don't respond well to the D* remote, they always respond lickety-split if I choose to use my iPad as the remote. Makes you wonder what the hell is going on.

My HR-24 was a remote disaster in RF. Some kind of interference issues. Back to IR and everything's fine.
Same here on my hr-23. IR an IP control are way better than RF

The directv remote commands have an extra signal added, which your ipad doesn't, try turning off this signal on the directv remote:

1. dtv
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
3. enter 9 6 3
4. press CH DOWN

What does turning off that signal do?

When my HR24 and H25s start to slow down or act up, I just reset them by unplugging and plugging back in. That clears them up and they speed up again.

Does that work for both RF and IR? I ask because 2 of my HR24s are in the AV rack in my front room and I use one in IR and the main one in RF mode.

The extra signal is turned off on the rf as well, will it affect it? no. Is beneficial for the rf commands? I doubt it.

What does it for both IR & RF, is change the menu options, no more two-way communication, you'll need to program the remotes manually.

I did it on both and it seemed to have an effect on both IR and RF, of course some of that may be wish fulfillment on my part! :)

So now if I need to program the remote again, I'll have to do it manually, or can you do that trick again and have it switch it back to the other way?

BTW, thanks for the tip, it is appreciated.
