Well, I'm about ready to get rid of all my DirecTivo's. I have Vonage and for whatever reason, none of them will connect...well, one did but that was an act of God. My HR10 will not connect no matter what I do. It did work flawlessly before I moved, but since I've gotten into the new house, it's not working at all...same dial settings and everything....below is what I am using.

Equip:

Linksys Vonage PAP2 ver. 2 phone adapter
Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router
Motorola SBS5120 Cable Modem

Settings:

DTivo HR10

Dial Prefix: 12122717103
Call waiting: ,#019
Dial Tone Det. OFF
Phone avail Det. OFF

Current Message: Negotiation Error, sometimes failed couldn't connect...

I'm about to see about getting them all upgraded to D* model receivers (HR20, R15) and just throw these in the closet, trash, or give them back to D*
I've tried removing the dial prefix, the call waiting prefix, and tried new dial in numbers with every combination of settings I can think of...any ideas before I throw them all out the window??

Since you moved I would assume that you also have a new internet provider which is probably what is now causing your problems. Could be the internetwork peering between your new provider and the ISP that Vonage uses has congestion or a longer route which could add to delay. What you might want to try is send an e-mail to [email protected] (it get's a bit quicker/better response) telling them the situation and they might be able to make some tuning changes to get you back on the road again. Good luck!

Well, unfortunately, I don't have DSL, I have cable...so the provider did not change when I moved, but thanks.

So you're on the same exact cable system in the new house vs. the old (I mean you go back to the same headend). If yes then it could be something with your node having some issues. Have you done any packet loss tests or checked your cable modem signal readings to see if that could be a problem (if you don't know what I'm talking about check out www.dslreports.com forum sections for your cable provider for modem stats checking and the tools section for performance).

Holy crap man!

For one thing, you don't need it to dial in. You can order PPV's on the web, and there is no other reason for it to phone home.

If you insist on wanting it to, use PPP.

yeah, the guy from the cable co. came today and said that there was a lot of packet loss, but couldn't find out why. He ran another cable into the house and then decided it was something outside causing the problem. He says that in 24 hours someone will be back to fix it and I do not have to be home. I hope they get it fixed soon because it's making my phone service super suck too. I wish I could just set up a wireless network, but the way that I have everything in my home it would be hard and very expensive to do, so now I may just have to get a basic line from the local phone company so that I can have these things calling in. I know I don't need the phone line for anything other than software updates and PPV, but it's just simpler leaving it like it is.

I use:

Dial Prefix: 12122773895,,
Call waiting: *99,,#019,,
Dial Tone Det. OFF
Phone avail Det. OFF

For me this works almost all of the time. When I try to make a daily call almost always fails but then it retries in another 30-60 minutes on its own and then will succesfully call in.
