There's been a few comments in another thread regarding the two types of dish.
Therefore is there anyone can be definitive?

Is the Slimline better in some manner than the Sidecar in capturing HD signals?
If so..why?

And if so...should I change my dish?

If so what's the best process...ie. will it cost me?

There's no hard evidence that says a slimline or sidecar is automatically better. Some people have reported better reception after changing out a dish, but it's possible their older dish had become defective or misaligned.

Personally I have a sidecar that's been happily sitting on the roof for two years and it's never given me reason to touch it.

No real difference per say other than it is very difficult to find replacement LNB's fpr the sidecar.

Thats why I had to have mine swapped and to tell you the truth I kinda like the looks of the Slimeline better.

The dishes performed equally. The Sidecar has been out of production for a long time and is no longer used in new installations.

Technically, the Slimline is the same, but it is smaller and lighter, so it won't move as much in wind. Some say it's easier to align, too.

I had a Sidecar for 2 years and it worked pretty well. However, the 103 and 99 signals were always low. The HD channels would go out almost every time it rained, but the SD channels rarely did. I could never seem to align it just right; even D* tried it and failed. I finally got them to put in a Slimline. The old LNBs are so hard to find, the tech took my Sidecar for spare parts.

The other problem is that the AT9's had 3 different manufacturers, and none of the LNBs or other parts were interchangable. They even used different cables to connect the sidecar.

AU9 "slimline" dishes all use the same style of LNB.
