hi guys -

over the weekend one of our 2 622's kept loosing the signal.

the weather was overcast(partly cloudy, no rain), but no worse than it has been on many occasions in the last 3 years when i have not had a problem with lost signals.

when i called the dish 800 #, the technician said that in marginal conditions (and i am not sure they were marginal conditions to start with) it is not unusual for 1 receiver to be affected and the other one not to be affected.

is that response correct?

are there hard and fast %'s for the satellite reception across the US?

It's possible, but a lot of factors come into play - signal strength, length of cable runs, sensitivity of the individual receivers, etc.

Of course the easiest way to check is to swap the two receivers and see if the loss in reception follows the receiver or the location.

However if your reception was really that marginal, I'd expect you'd lose it a lot more often.

It is certainly possible, but as already noted also is indicative of a problem that should be fixed.

Think of it like water pressure if it helps... If there is a leak in the pipe down the road, but you live at one of the nearby houses on that connection, you may not notice an immediate drop in water pressure... but the guy a couple of doors down might get home and turn on his and see a difference... but when you go to sleep and turn off all your water, his pressure goes back up again.

Thing is, there's still a leaky pipe that needs to be fixed!

So, yeah the tech can be correct that a situation exists where one receiver seems fine but the other doesn't get a strong enough signal... but that situation only exists when there is a problem, so his "answer" shouldn't be the end-all-be-all solution to it. A good tech would note that as possible, and then proceed to actually diagnose the problem.
