Signal Stength on 61.5 in Houston - Setup

1646 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  BattleZone
Just setup a Dish500 to catch 61.5 on a spotbeam to compensate for the crazy levels on the 129. I have a VIP622 and a 211.

Current Setup:
Dish 1000.2:
Signal Strength on 110: 59
Signal Strength on 119: 74
Signal Strength on 129: 41

Dish 500
Signal Strength on 61.5: 32

Is anyone else doing this and do you see an issue with these numbers. The 61.5 should be stronger than the 129, but as you can see, either the installer messed up, or it is not living up to the advertisement.

Comments and suggestions are appreciated. I also PM'd James Long for more info as well.

I'm getting 57% on TP 27 for the 61.5 orbital and I'm in Portland, TX (Corpus). Your post doesn't mention transponders measured, some are much weaker than others and don't always apply to your location. One thing about 61.5 is the signal is stable, unlike 129 which as you not is crazy.

My biggest question is, "Which is my transponder?" and "Who can tell me?"

Anyone
Your HD locals are on 110° (I think you're in the Houston DMA). On 61.5° you should check the readings on several transponders - probably 19, 25 and 32 would be enough to see what's going on.

How does 32 sound as an average? I will scroll through all of them later and post findings.

Lousy. Lousy even for 129, but far worse for 61.5, where you should ge getting between 50-60 with the modified signal meter at least. 129 averages around 40 (high 30s to low 40s).
We have had a great deal of rain here lately, so it took a while to get these numbers, but there they are for the 61.5. Transponders listed with an "S" show up as spotbeam.

The fact that I am having LNB drift may have something to do with the signal strength?? Maybe. I will be having the installer come back out and finish the job correctly.

Actually, those signals aren't bad (much better than your original estimate), but definitely have that drifting LNB swapped out. Remember that the sat at 61.5 is OLD. Had everything gone as planned, there would be a brand-new, much more powerful bird up there right now (AMC-14), but a 2nd-stage rocket failure this spring resulted in a total loss of the sat, and a big setback for Dish at that location.

Rocket science is still hard, and unfortunately, these things happen.
