Whats the maximum I should expect? I see 82% now and remember seeing 85%. I assuming the converters attenuate some and thus 100% would be impossible...
What's a good reading with the converter?

In the OC, I would expect at the very least low 90s unless you have very long cable runs or some blockage like a bit of tree. I'm 400 mi. farther north and still have 90s on most of the transponders. (The spot beams tend to read a bit lower unless you are in the sweet center.)

Now, I've found that its not very useful to compare different receiver models (like HR10 vs. HR20), but I usually get fairly consistent numbers with two alike units.

Cheers,
Tom

Yessir, just checked in the snow storm we've got going. Down to about 88 on my main spotbeam for mpeg4. Now, the off angle spotbeams that are not my locals were 50 and 40 in clear weather. They are now reading 0, I'm assuming cuz KA is very susceptible to rain/fade if you are not perfectly aligned on angle.

Cheers,
Tom

Some of my transponders show 100 with the BBC's attached.

Hmm.. the lying bum D* installers claimed there was a 15 drop due to the converters... I'm thinking they just didn't want to bother fine aiming the dish.
Normal D* performance for me so far.

The BBCs shouldn't have any noticeable effect on signal strength. The signal strength screen isn't actually measuring the "strength" of the signal anyway, it's the error rate.

I decided to put these on my HR20 even though they are not needed yet because I thought I may lose them in the interim. But, when I put them on I lose my sat signal totally. On both inputs. Do I need to rerun some kind of setup or something or are both of my converters bad?

I think I saw somewhere that these BBCs are directional....try flipping them around.

I hope the tech that comes to see me tomorrow is able to get my lined up better to give me higher numbers on the 99 satalite.

I just had my dish re-aimed. Even with the BBC now some of the signals are 100%! So my first installer was a lying bum.

Yeah, I found that out. While I was downloading 115 I took a closer look at them. So after a couple of colorful metaphors I put them in correctly and now no problems.
Felt too stupid to tell everybody.

I'm just curious, how did you manage to put them on backwards? Did you attach the male end of the BBC to a wall plate, and then the female end to the coax line going to the receiver?

I though I was clever. Plus I have little room in my cabinet behind the unit. They are just crammed in there now.
