Simultaneous IR and RF?

1015 Views 6 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Spanky_Partain
One of the features I liked about the R15 is that it responded to both IR and RF-- so the RC32 could control it from the living room, and the RC32RF could control it from the bedroom. Just got my first HR20 installed and it appears that scenario won't work-- you have to make a choice between IR and RF. Is that the case, or am I missing something?

Thanks!

Great idea! I currently have my HR20 located in the theatre room and the A/V processor's remote zone sends audio/video to another room. Problem is, since I'm using IR from the MX-700, I'm forced to use an IR repeater in the remote zone room using the original remote. I sure would like to use the original in RF mode.
I think the idea should go on the Wish List thread, if it isn't already.

I believe the reason both IR and RF work for the R15 is because RF is not officially "working" on the R15, some have just figured out that it is turned on. D* at one time said that it would take a software upgrade to turn RF on and that it was "coming soon" but someone figured out a while back that it was already on and that you just needed to hook up an antenna to the box since one was not inside like on the HR20.

My bet is that eventually the R15 will be like the HR20 in that it will be one or the other, not both. :(
Can someone recomend an IR repeater that actually works?

Thanks J C
Hot Link Pro is pretty good. It has a 65' extension in the box. I've never tried the 100' extension, but it looks like they have both a RJ45 (Cat5) and a RG9 cable option. www (dot) hot-link (dot) com

I also use Xantech IR components extensively in my system. The Xantech stuff is bullet proof, but a little bit more complicated to setup. www (dot) xantech (dot) com
I used the radio shack one and it has been very reliable.

Now I am using the Harmony 890 remote. You will have both IR and RF access.
