I see from the Hopper press release that while it only has 3 tuners, the new unit will be able to "record using a single tuner all of the primetime TV programming from ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC". Meaning I guess you can then simultaneously also record two other networks.

So how can one tuner record four different networks at the same time? Sounds like an awesome feature, but I'm curious how they're accomplishing that?

One tuner records the entire multiplexed local feed and splits it back out on the Hopper.

Thanks for asking this question again... While it has been answered before in larger discussion threads (I asked it myself once), that info can be tough to find.

This post prompted me to begin a FAQ Q&A section in our "Tips and Useful Info" thread stickied at the top of this forum.

I am closing your thread here as the question is asked and answered with a link to the Q&A section as we expand that with further Hopper/Joey info in the future.
