What's the best way to get a site survey for switching to HD? Currently have Single LNB on a pole mount that can see 101 fine but could never get 119 for locals, too many trees. We want to switch to HD and really take advantage of the lovely TV we bought last year. The OTA locals in HD are awesome but want everything in HD :D

Should I go through DirecTV and just set up an install or call an installer and just hire them myself? I really want to know if we have anywhere on the property that will see 99/101/103.

What do site surveys cost, I really hate to have DirecTV send someone for an install and we find out that I need a new pole mount somewhere else in the yard and they would have to come back anyway.

I live in 04011 Brunswick, ME part of the Portland, ME local area. Trees are the biggest obstacle here.

This is Google's view of the house and the other is looking west down the from the end of the driveway.

Any hope for us???

just order it and they will do a survey when they arrive to install it.

If youre getting 101 then odds are you can get 99 and 103 just fine.

You will need to adapt that pole you currently have to 2" O.D. from the current 1 5/8" for a ka/ku to mount to.
Most HSP's dont stock an adapter so It will save you a reschedule if you allready have an adapter ( purchased online etc..) or another pole allready installed when they get there.

You will currently get most, but not everything in HD if you have nlos on the 119.

If you know you can't get the 119, it might be a waste of your time dealing with an hsp because most of them have a "all or nothing" policy to avoid chargebacks dealing with los issues. The best thing in your situation may be to call around to local dealers and see what they can do for you.

Where can I find out what I would miss without LOS for 119?

I am positive I cannot get 119. 5 years ago when we moved in we were Dish customers and used the mover plan. Installer came out and said no way, too low in the sky to clear the trees so they let us out of the contract and we switched to DirecTV, really like it better.

CH's 72 (ESPN2HD) and 79 (HD Net) are on the 119. They will very likely be moved to either 99(c) or 103(c) in the fairly near future. (And 70, 71, and 73-78 are on the 110, also to be moved.) If you now receive the 101, it would be very unusual to not also be able to receive the 99's and the 103's.
