Has anyone else had a site or signal test done from their yard to determine if they qualify for locals or not? Do they have to come inside or is it all done from the yard? Anyone know what kind of levels the signal has to live up to?

The site survey is performed from your yard to determine what location is best for the dish installation.

You can also do this yourself. We're coming up on the time of year where you can easily use the Sun's position in the sky at specific times of day to determine where the satellites are located and where you might have your dish installed. See the link in my signature below.

Its not really that kind of site test. Its for locals. I already have service but am not offered locals. I live near a small airport (1 block away) and a am going to have a site test done to see what locals I should be able to pick up and which ones I cant. My understanding of this is they come to your yard and see what kind of signals you get for the locals. If they are not up to some kind of a standard then I should be able to get a waiver granted and get DNS locals.

Your profile says your currently a DirecTV customer.
Go into the signal strength screen and you can check levels for each satellite.

As for your locals, strength doesn't have TOO much to do with it.
You have to be within the DMA boundaries to get that cities locals.
If your in the boundary, chances are good your signal will be ok.
If your not, they cannot (and will not) turn on those locals due to FCC laws.

Okay the deal is that I am on the outskirts of the Joplin/Pittsburg DMA and there is a chance that some stations signals are not high enough and I could qualify for DNS feed. That is what this is about. I am in the Joplin DMA but just barely. 5 minutes up the road they are in the Tulsa DMA and they have locals. This is what I have to do in order to try and get locals.
