Hi guys:

I've been trying, without success to figure out if there is a skip-to-tick feature with the HR-21. Can't find mention of it in the manual.

On my old HD Tivo machine I could hit the skip ahead button while in fast forward or fast reverse and it would automatically skip to the next 15 minute tick mark on the display bar. Made it very convenient to skip ahead quickly or rewind quickly in a long recording.

Does a similar feature exist with the HR21? For the life of me, I can't find it.

Its a Press-And-Hold feature (hold down the FF button). PAH is an abomination, and works very poorly for skip-to-tick and slomo, IMHO. They should abandon it completely and come up with another method. Today.

Thanks, works for me now.

Either they have that feature well-hidden or I just missed it when paging through the long manual that came with this machine.

The manual is so old and out of date it's not even funny.
yeah maybe milo can comment on the current state of the various manuals

To summarize:

Skip to end of recording = press and hold the 30skip/30slip button for 3 seconds then toggle the button again

Skip to beginning of the recording = press and hold the skip-back/slip-back button for 3 seconds then toggle the button again

Skip forward to tick = press and hold the FF button for 3 seconds then toggle the button again

Skip backward to tick = press and hold the RW button for 3 seconds then toggle the button again

To see your progress in the current recording = press the play button - more preferrable than showing the progress bar in 30skip

I would prefer for DIRECTV to eliminate all press-and-hold and use "modes" instead to change the meaning of a key.

If in FFW or REW mode, press SLIP/SKIP to jump forward to the next tick mark or back to the previous tick mark. Outside of FFW and REW mode, it's just a SLIP/SKIP key.

In FFW or REW mode, press INSTANT REPLAY to jump to end or start of the buffer or recording. Outside of FFW and REW mode, it's just an INSTANT REPLAY key.

Make it so, DIRECTV!

So whether you go to the beginning or end of the recording is determined by either your current FFW or REW function? We have been doing press&hold for so long, I really would not want to change. Your idea does sound nice and orderly. Too bad we didn't start with that :)

Yeah, but it's not too late for DIRECTV to make amends! :)
