I received an AU9 Slimline as a replacement for a troubled AU9 which was installed a few weeks ago. The replacement's a customer install (me) and right off the get-go, I'm noticing a couple differences in the two dishes.

1) The 4 mounting holes in the replacement reflector are significantly lower, closer to the bottom edge.

2) The 'dish bracket' (as it's referred to in a Slimline AU9 manual I'd viewed on Solidsignal's website) on my existing Slimline is different in that the section where the LNB feed arm engages and fastens to the dish bracket is a one piece design.

The 'dish bracket' that came with my replacement AU9 requires what appears to be a 90 degree coupling or union for fastening the LNB feed arm to the dish bracket. This piece is missing from the hardware I received today and being there was no manual included, it's exact description's not possible (sorry). In the manual I'm viewing online, it appears to possibly be an integral part of the LNB feed arm and not a seperate piece.

Here's the manual I'm referring to, it's a PDF: AU9. The 90 degree section on the end of the feed arm is what I'm missing.

Just curious... Are any of the pro installers that frequent this board familiar with what I'm talking about and if so, is the dish I received today a newer Slimline design (in terms of the LNB feed arm to dish bracket mounting assembly)?

The satellite company that delivered the replacement dish (in open box/ individual peices) will be retuning later today, hopefully with whatever's missing or is the correct part.

Just to confirm, as Mertzen said, the different manufactures each have their own tweak on the design but they all get the same job done.

Sorta like the differences between the dashes on the receiver numbers (Hr20-100 vs. HR20-700, etc.)

Usually you replace the dish in order to replace the LNB assembly. Will the new LNB fit the old dish arm? Something else wrong with old dish? Tree limb fall on it or something?

Use the missing part from your old dish.
That would be too easy :)

The dishes use two different types of dish brackets, each of which mount at a different location on the reflector (one mounts lower than the other). One bracket has a 90 degree flange that will accept a straight LNB arm; the other bracket requires that the LNB arm have what appears to be a 90 degree (or thereabouts) coupler that's attaches to the bracket. In less confusing words, one will not work with the other.

That would be too easy as well :) The original dish has several (minor) dings and scratches on the reflector and LNB arm. As I'd mentioned in an earlier post, it may or may not have been used, it most likely was not but it's definitely battered up, possibly through careless loading and handling (open box, unsecured parts rolling around the back of an unlined PU truck...it can happen).

On a good note, the replacement looks mint. Otta work like a charm!

I wish the satellite guy had bothered to knock on my door this morning when he'd dropped off the wrong part. We were at home at the time :nono2:

I found an image that better illustrates what I'm referring to. The arm that's part of the replacement dish hardware dosen't include the 90 degree piece that's pointed out in the picture. With out it, there's no way to fasten LNB feed arm to the 'dish bracket' (the piece that mounts on the back side of the reflector... the piece with the engraved 'tilt' numbers). The piece I'm referring to appears to be an integral part of the LNB arm that's pictured and I'm guessing it's one of those design variations that exist between manufacturers(?) What he'd left was another 'dish braceket'. In other words, it's not the solution (if he'd only rang the doorbell).

He's coming back by, tomorrow morning. Till then, I'm going with duct tape and SuperGlue
