Hey all,

Having some issues with aligning my Slimline for the HD sats (99/103). I have read some areas, while not specific, about diplexers and the Slimline - are you not able to pick up these sats if you are using Diplexers??? If so, why? Is there any way around it aside from running two wires for each setup?

Getting 90's+ on 101 and 119.

In order to use diplexers with a slimline, it would need to be a SWM-Slimline or you would need to use a SWM module.

The reason is the satellites use the same signal range as a diplexer. The SWM moves the sat signals out of that range.

What exactly is an SWM Slimline? Hopefully I didn't get the wrong dish...yikes.

SWM-Slimline is still in limited release. You can pick up a SWM module, but you'll have to buy it yourself. You can PM dave29 here on the boards (that's where I got my SWM-8 module)

SWMSlimline (also known here as a SWMLine) has the SWM module built into the LNB assembly. You can tell you have it if you only have one cable connector coming from the LNB.

OK, so, the SWM would enable me to see the HD channels, correct? Right now while using diplexers, I am getting all the channels (just not HD ones) and also getting the locals from the off-air antenna. Only thing that isn't coming thru are the HD channels. Want to be sure the SWM is my issue because if its just aligning, no point in wasting money on it.

Start by removing the diplexers and properly aligning the Slimline dish. If you do not get HD channels in that configuration, then something other than diplexers is causing the problem.

Once you have verified you have HD then comes the question of getting OTA to your receiver/TV locations. Diplexers and the Slimline/HD signals do not play well together. A solution is to run separate cable for OTA (my recommendation). Another solution is the purchase SWM8 equipment to add to the Slimline equipment. The SWM technology allows a single coax feed for up to eight tuners and one can diplex OTA on that coax.

Most likely your diplexers are killing the Lo signals 250-750Mhz. Since that is the range the OTA is using.

I wrapped mine in electrical tape (3M of course and not the cheap stuff) and had it outside for well over a year with no failures. It would still be up there if it wasn't recently replaced with SWM.

It is possible to diplex. You have to do it correctly. The order of components is critical:

Dish ---> BBC ---> Combining diplexer ----> Splitting Diplexer ---> Receiver

Or
Dish ---> Multiswitch ---> BBC ---> Comb. diplexer ---> split. diplexer --> Receiver

Masure you install the BBCs the correct way (The "pigtail" needs to be on the receiver side).

More than likely that some device that you have inline isn't allowing DC power to pass through.

That all makes perfect sense, ordered an SWM-8 yesterday so will have to wait till the weekend to mess with it.

However, I have been reading for 2 hours or so now and it seems there are mixed opinions on diplexers working with SWM8's.

I am planning on doing the following:

4 Sat lines and 1 OTA line to SWM8, thru the output on SWM-8 into power adapter then into a splitter SWS-4. From the splitter to to each receiver but before I connect to receiver, using a diplexer (http://www.solidsignal.com/prod_display.asp?prod=STD-9501) to split the one line with one going into OTA input on the receiver and the other to the Sat Input. Says that diplexer is compatible with the SWM8.

From what I read, some have said this won't work? I have read that you need BBC connecters on the line before its diplexed and have also read other posts that said BBC's aren't needed with a Slimline and/or SWM8.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Diplexing can be tricky but does work.. I have seen some problems due to interference from the ota line..
your discription is correct on how to hook it up..

BBCs are not used with SWM setups... the "you need BBC connecters on the line before its diplexed" stuff has to do with a way of diplexing on the NONswm setup..

Also, some have found that the internal diplexing in the SWM8 tends to introduce more signal loss than using an external diplexer on the output of the SWM. If you have problems with OTA when feeding it into the OTA port ont he SWM, then you might try using an external diplexer.
