No signal problems since my install last Monday. Today it is raining and my signal strength has dropped horribly:

101: 40 44 39 83 0 0 42 0 0 45 0 83 0 0 0 0 0 73 0 77 0 0 43 0 42 51 0 82 42 0 42 0

Five minutes later signal popped back to where it should be.

The only time I recall having signal interruption with my 3lnb was during heavy snow!

More complete signal strength readings and radar imagery:

101: 44 49 44 88 42 39 42 0 40 50 42 86 42 0 44 0 42 77 42 79 45 0 45 0 47 53 43 83 47 0 47 0
110: 0 0 0
119: 0 54 0 71 0 47 0 77 0 42 0
99*b): 0 22 0 15 0 17
103a: 0 0 0 0 0 0

Hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like there were some pretty strong cells to the southwest of you - direction of the satellite(s).

It isn't just the weather where you are at, it is the weather between you and the satellite. It could be sunny at your house and you could have rain fade from a strong storm a couple of miles away from you.

Also Boston is pretty far north, so the elevation angle of your dish is lower than that of others south of you. Basically the lower the elevation angle on your dish, the more your signal has to travel through the atmosphere and unfortunately more precipitation.

Let's continue this one step further. In VA it rained buckets at a rate of .90 inches/hr all Sunday but my signals never went below 90. Why does some rain effect the signal more then other?

I had NO rain fade on Sunday!

Well I should amend that, did have some pixelation and momentary loss of signal!
Once my AT9 was properly aligned I have experianced far less rain fade then with my phase III!

I don't know about the "slimline" but I think the AT9 is better in this regaurd!

I have the slimline dish and experienced rain fade on sunday during the Pats game for about 5 mins or less. I seems this is the first and only time I have had rain fade in 3 weeks. It has rained quite a bit in the last few days here, sometimes very hard and I have not had any other rain fade.

So far with the AT9 I have had NO rain fade (that I know about) in about a month since install. Its difficult to say for sure, but that leads me to also believe the AT9 is better than the PIII.

Once the the new satellites are launched in late 07 will we need a greater than 5lnb dish to receive new channels?
I do not belive we will. I could be completly wrong here but I thought the new sats would be in slots within in the range that the AT9 can see now!
Specificly 99 to 103 and Ka band! But do not take that as fact!
