Slingbox with H25
I just bought a slingbox pro hd and want to hook it up at my buddy's house in chicago so i can watch sports in California.
He has an H25 which doesnt have component outputs. Is there any way around this? I really dont want to watch SD which is why I bought the HD version.
My second question is how does the dual tuners in the pro hd actually work? Can we both be watching a different channel at the same time?
I would put this on the slingbox forums but honestly they are terrible.
You guys are waaaay more knowledgeable.

In answer to you watching different things, the Slingbox Pro HD has multiple inputs, but if you are connected to his H25, then you are watching and controlling his H25. If he is also watching it, it's like you are both sitting there and each has his own remote control. If he changes a channel, it changes for both of you. If you change it back, it changes for both of you. The H25 is only a single source.
Looking at the specs on the slingbox pro hd, it does not look like it has it's own digital television tuner, so you can't hook an antenna up to it for ota reception. If it did, then you could watch an ota channel independent of your friends H25.
Keep in mind, the quality of what you get is going to depend hugely on your friends internet connection upload speed, as well as your download speed. To get HD, it takes bandwidth. I have 3 slingboxes, none of which are HD, and there are many times I have problems watching an SD show if I'm using a public wifi of any sort (too little download shared by too many people). Works fine when I'm on a private internet link.
You also talk about dual tuner DVR (the H25 is a single tuner receiver, not DVR). However the same thing is true - all outputs of the DVR have the same content. Whatever is being watched on any output is what is being watched on all outputs. The second tuner can record something different, but you are both going to be watching the same thing at the same time.

As to the origional poster, I would recommend that you have your friend add another H25 to his system if you want independant control/viewing. The additional monthly fee/expense added to his account would be $6 which you reimburse him for.
this would take care of any issues that woud arise in your origional senario where the box would be "shared". If he sets up an ariel or set top digital ATSC antenna, you could both watch that source independantly since each device would have it's own tuner without suffering from the same conflict.
Do you guys know if I will be able to record things on my friends whole home dvr thru the H25?
Yes, the H25 should be able to schedule recordings on his DVRs if he has whole home service.
I guess it kinda pisses me off that the Pro HD slingbox says it has dual tuners when in all reality, it doesnt.
I don't see that anywhere on the Slingbox site? It says it has a QAM and ATSC tuner, but in reality that is the same tuner that can be used as either a QAM tuner or an ATSC tuner. It wouldn't make sense for them to unclude dual tuners anyway since it can only send out the signal to one device at a time. What would the second tuner be used for?

That's not dual tuners. That means that the person sitting in the home can use the internal tuner to watch something on their TV while someone can sling out whatever is on the component/composite/S-video inputs, or the person at home can watch whatever is hooked up to the component/composite/s-video inputs while someone slings out whatever they tune to on the tuner.
On the other sling units whatever is being watched on the TV at home is the same as what is getting slinged out.

I guess when i saw "built in tuner avoids conflicts with viewers at home" I got too excited.....
