Slow Mo?

Is there a slow motion ability on the HR20?

Thought I read that hitting play again would do slow mo, it didn't work.

Tried it on both remotes, Harmony 880 and HR20 remote.

Its not a huge thing, but it is a nice feature. Its one of those features they used to advertise like crazy to get people to get Tivo/DVRs.

Also,
Is there a Live TV function? Don't want to lose buffer, and can't get the skip to tick method to work consistently.
Live TV function ?
Huh ?

If you're not watching a previously recored program you're in the live TV mode.

Hit and HOLD play and it should go slo mo. Try it on your original remote.

Press and hold 30-sec slip. It should take you to live TV/end of buffer

For Live TV... hit the EXIT or STOP button.
Thanks Earl. I will try that tonight.

DustB- That method only takes you to the end of the show you are currently watching in the buffer. i.e. if you have 90 minutes of buffer, with all 30 minute shows, the skip to tick method can only be used once to hit the 15 min mark, in each show. and the skip to end takes you to the end of one program/beginning of the next. I haven't been able to get that method to work consistently for me, on my HR20 remote or 880.

I will try out Earl's method tonight.

I will also try the Slow-Mo method of press and hold tonight. Thanks for the help guys.

I do like my HR20, there are some issues I have had, and some bitterness, because I was promised a HR10 that would work with my OTA. I am trying to be more patient and accepting... using the little work arounds people are finding to make the system more tivo-like.... Its just one of those things where you feel like you went from a car with power everything, and now you have to manually lock the doors and roll down the windows.... It still works and gets the same function in the end, just not as convenient.

Just be aware that the slo-mo feature requires some timing. You have to hold it down for just the right amount of time, then let go. If you hold too long, it goes back into "play" mode. You'll see the LED ring slowly start to spin when the slo-mo activates.
Slow-mo requires you to hold for approximately 3 seconds. This is annoying when the video continues as you are holding the button.
I like to hit the Slo-mo button on TIVO and watch the pitch heading toward homeplate. This doesn't work well with the HR20.
You're better off with an HR20 than and HR10. The HR20 does MPEG4 and the HR10 does not.

The HR20 works differently than a TiVo but it's not worse than the TiVo. The software is a lot faster. I don't have to wait around for 30 seconds for it to process when I tell it to record a show or set up a season pass like I did with my DIRECTV/TiVo HDVR2.

This is pertinent to the slo-mo topic how?

Earl,
I tried what you suggested. Pressing Exit or Stop to be taking from some spot in the buffer to live tv, but it doesn't work.

Does that only work if you are watching a recording show?

Gets to be a hassle to catch up if you are 70 minutes into the buffer and want to get to live without losing all the buffer, especially if you are on Cartoon network during AdultSwim with a bunch of 15min shows. I can get a few 'skip to end' tricks to work, but trying to get through 6 just makes the girlfriend very angry.

I'm pretty sure that will only work for recordings. To skip to the end of the buffer (and to go back to live TV), hold down the 30 second slip button for 3 seconds.

That only gets you to the end of the buffer on the screen, which is one show. If I have 90 minutes of buffer, with 3 shows in there. Each time I hold the 30 sec slip it only goes to the end of one show and the beginning of the next. So you need to do that 3 times, at least on mine I do. If you are watching Adult Swim where there are several 15 minute shows, you only see 15 min of buffer and have to "slip to end" through each one. A huge hassle especially if you are using a Harmony 880.
If you are trying to use the slow motion feature with the Harmony 880 remote, you need to hold the play button for 3 seconds, let go, and then hit play again. This is similar in function to the skip to tick, etc. with the Harmony remotes.
Ah, the live tv button. I find myself on occasion thinking that I need to press this button as well. tiVo has programmed us to think we need an extra button press for live tv. We don't. With this unit, you are always in live TV or watch a recording mode. If you want to go from a recording to live TV, simply press the channel number and you are there. Hit Prev if you want to return to the channel you left. No need for the additional button press TiVo has made us look for.

My slow motion never worked right. It isn't the timing thing for me - sometimes it will work great, like it should per the instructions - other times (most), the banner just flickers at the bottom when I hold the play and it never kicks in, nor does the blue light on the circle start to go around. I have tried every timing scenerio possible - it has to be the unit - I can't be that bad with timing, at least I hope not.
Have you tried both IR and RF modes of the remote? Maybe it's some signal interference issue...
