I have the HR23 receiver and it is really slow. Sometimes slower than others. I have tried all the tricks I have read about. Nothing helps. I can not believe Dish refuses to correct this problem. With modern tech it should not be a problem.

I doubt Dish will do anything to correct your DirecTV receiver.

Do you want to give us some more info as to where you find it slow? Is it in the Guide? Tuning in a station? Responding to remote commands? And what exactly have you tried?

It's also fine to just vent your frustration. People do it here all the time.

Seeing how you subscribe to DirecTV why would you expect DISH to correct the issue you're having? :sure:

westview, going back through your 20 posts, about half of them have been about your HR23 being slow. As I said upthread, that's OK with me. Drive-by posts happen all the time.

Your biggest problem seems to be channel changing speed. If I was you, I'd turn Native off and only select either 1080i or 720p for resolution. You'd want that set to whatever is the native resolution of your television. Have you tried that?

Oh lemme take this one!!

Is it in the Guide? Yes
Tuning in a station? Yes
Responding to remote commands? Yes

And what exactly have you tried? Menu reset, RBR, NVRAM clear

The HR23 was never speedy to begin with but it was tolerable. Adding the HDGUI was like chaining it to a boat anchor.

Sorry about saying Dish when I meant Direct. I have posted more than I should have, but I n very frustrated. The post by xsabresz prety much covered my situation. I can not believe with technology what it is today this problem can not be fixed.

One other thing to try...

Are you set to "Native On" on your HD display settings in the setup menu?

If so...try it with "Native Off" and see if that helps.

But, westview, there is technology to fix this problem. It's called the HR24.

That's the problem with new technology. It's always replacing old tech.

I use a HR23. Have for three years. It isn't the fastest or most responsive thing around but I have found it perfectly acceptable to use. And the HD GUI made it quicker.

DTV won't replace the slow DVRs with HR24s.

So?

There isn't a satellite or cable system out there which guarantees their subscribers equipment that uses only the latest technology. It isn't in my agreement with DirecTV. It isn't in the agreement with Dish. It isn't in Time/Warner's, Comcast's or FIOS' agreements, either.

A lot of people on this board have paid $199 to Solid Signal for a HR24 to make sure they have the fastest and best technology. If you insist on owning the best, it is available to you.

Never said they did.

Owned versus leased is a completely specious argument.

There is an opportunity cost to be guaranteed to get the latest technology from DirecTV. It is $199 for a HR24 or $399 for a HR34.

The new Samsung Smart TV's are dual core for their applications and Smart Hub. This is faster TV than my 7000 series from last year. They are definitely not going to replace my slower TV with the faster model.

People spend money to upgrade their technology all the time.

How many folks will get rid of a perfectly good iPhone 3G or 4 for an iPhone 5? Does anybody here think Apple should give them an iPhone 5 for free?

Because the receivers are leased, some folks think that DirecTV should upgrade their technology for no charge. That is absurd. I can't imagine anybody even making that argument if the receivers weren't leased, and even leased, it doesn't make any sense.

If you lease a car and the next year there is a new model, should you get that new model at no charge? If you rent an apartment, which is a lease, and a new apartment becomes available with a better floor plan, new appliances, an extra bedroom and a better view, should you get that new apartment for the same price as your old one?
