Hi guys, boy these rooms are alot different than AVS. I posted 2 threads over there asking for help about these scalers that I am forced to buy and another about thread about HTPC sound. I have recieved a total of 1 reply in each thread and I even said hello new to forums and so on.

When I post over here you guys jump right in and help. So are they guys over ther snobs and don't like newbies or just too busy or what?

I felt the same way you do about AVS. I found this site and haven't been back since. Ask away we're always willing to help.

My higher frequencies tend to come and go at the oddest times, I'm sure it must be atmospheric conditions. Maybe I ran out of my meds...

Not snobs ... just more verbose people on the topic hang out here.
Sometimes more verbose people off the topic as well.

Not really into the name calling (snobs) though ... it is just a difference in the focus of the site ... ask a question about a particular monitor or AV gear and it could go unanswered here (unless someone happened to have that gear or made a guess).

I know the tone is very different at AVSforum, but they are also a lot bigger and a lot more diverse.

I don't know when you posted but they did have some server difficulties, which might have scared a few people off for a day or two.

I don't monitor their DirecTV threads any more. I like it here better for that. But I can often be found in the thread for Chicago OTA or for my Samsung TV. They do some things pretty well at avsforum.com IMO.

I agree with Stuart. This really is "the place" for specific questions about this narrow segment of your home theater stuff. AVS has such a breadth of users and subject matter that on DBS issues, the information base just isn't the same. Now, if you need some good advice on TVs, audio gear, etc., AVS is a great resource; but I'll readily admit that it takes some time to wade through all of the posturing to actually get to the meat of what it is you're looking for . . . if that makes sense.

avs is great for tv news/ratings/basic setup easy stuff like that....not so much for the techy stuff imo.

Yep there was a major server failure and they lost several days of posts.

DBSTalk is a great site and is a nice size for getting answers to questions but not getting lost in the shuffle. I only go to AVS for very specific info but tend to hand out here and a couple of other sites for fun.
