software issues??

Hello Gents. I have a non-HD receiver and have been a Dtv customer for over 5 yrs. Every year I have to get a new receiver, old one just stops working well.

Coming up on a year now, and I'm getting no pict/w/sound, and it records shows I haven't chosen and doesn't records shows i have. So I call for a new receiver and they tell me that the problem is on their end and the engineers haven't found a solution.

I ended up here because I thought this problem to be a major thing and be all over the internet, but looks like not. Do you think that they're giving me some kind of run-around?

Try resetting the receiver.
I do not have an SD receiver so the steps may not be worded the same.
Menu, Setup, Reset, choose the first reset in the group of 3.
This is the same as doing a shutdown / restart of a PC.

Yes, there are some receivers having problems with the most recent software version.

What is the model number of your receiver ? To get this, press and hold the Info button on the remote and the system Info will come to the screen. Give us the full model number.
Example: R15-300
TY, Jimmy. I see I must enable email notifications here.

It's an R-15-500 model.

I have already reset a few times, and it scrolls and runs better- yet that's not the fix so far.

I wonder if they don't give any priority to fixing these sets anymore compared to the HD models.

I don't have a HD TV, so I haven't upgraded to the HD receiver, figuring it would just cost more and not do anything.

TY,Bob

P.S.- The latest software version installed was back in June on this. (0x136b)

Have you checked your signal strengths?

I have. 96+ average. You think my signal strength would make it record shows I don't want?
When you rebooted, did you reboot twice within 30 minutes? Wondering if part of the issue is bad guide data. Two reboots in that time will clear the data.

I'll try this. Is this the total reboot where I lose everything? What about the Blank Screen?

Tx
You won't lose anything but guide data. The first few hours should show up immediately, but can take a day or two to fully populate.

How are you setup? What output on the DVR, does it go directly to the TV etc.

You might want to skim over this thread and see if anything there helps you.

The video blackouts are a known issue. It is also a known issue for the guide's recording icons to not be accurate. Use the To Do List to tell what will be recorded instead. It is an issue with the current software, 0x136B.

The HD/DVRs do not have this issue. If you were thinking about upgrading, now might be the time.

TY, and yes I was thinking that they might not be caring as much about the older receivers now. I'll check on prices today. Shame to have to get an HD box for a 6 yr old tube TV.

Edit:Called CS- Hd box will run me $200- no TY. Escalated service for me and I may see a software update in about 2wks. They said my older box is problematic and they have R16's now but thay have issues with them and I can't have one because mine isn't totally broke.

I'll give them the 2 wks if it doesn't get much worse, but in the meantime I'll be checking out packages with Cable. Ugh. I'll offer them an exchange for the R16 first.
I believe this can happen if the LNB doesn't switch to the correct polarity for the channel.
You end up on a different frequency. The DVR doesn't know it and just records.

Your issue is that you are too truthful with them. If they won't give you a new one because yours isn't totally broke.....there is your answer.....;)

This isn't something fixable by myself, correct? Maybe a visit from a tech?

Oh, I arrived at your "solution" before I posted here, I just refrained from posting any intentions on the WORLD WIDE WEB.:nono::)

Maybe my issue was being too truthful Here.

The issue affects R16s as well. The only DVRs it doesn't affect are R15-100s and R15-300s. 0x136B was skipped for most of those models. Unfortunately you cannot request a specific model, much less a specific manufacturer(which is what the -XXX designates). Even if you were able to get a replacement, odds are you would get one with the issue.

If this was the case the show in the playlist would be listed as what was supposed to record, but would play back as the wrong show. If this is what's happening, either troubleshooting here or a tech visit would be needed.
