Can someone please explain the logic behind DirecTv’s software release designation scheme? It seems to me that 0xAC should pre-date 0xDC, not come after it.

Well I won't delete this thread... but I will explain how the numbering works.

It is HEX notation

0123456789ABCDEF 16 values

So 0xAC is: Build 172
0xDC is: Build 220

Just a joke in that I'm surprised they call it "0xAC" and not "0x00AC".

Actually when it is on the BLUE SCREEN downloading page, it is listed as
00AC

Just in the "GUI" they list it as 0xAC

Because leading 0s suck :D
No, not really. They're quite useful. Suppose I had a list of features/issues, where each line started with the build number. Well, if I sort that file, I'd really prefer build "0xAC" to come before "0x123" (which it won't without the leading zeros). And if I want to find entries related to build "0xAC", I don't want entires related to build "0xAC2" or "0xAC3F" and so on.

Anyway, just proof that I'll argue about nearly anything when I'm bored at work. :D

BTW, depending on how they interpret it, they may need to stop at 7fff :)
