Software update question

0x255 is the current national release software for the HR21. When there is a new software update available DIRECTV will push it to your unit in the middle of the night as soon as it is available.
If you force an update all you will do is download the same software you already have. But you reboot the unit and when you get the blue "Welcome DIRECTV" screen you press 02468 and it will start downloading.

Yes, at the moment, most folks have what we call the national release which is the same version that you are using at the moment. When a new National Release is ready, then it will usually be sent down to some number of folks .. I the last cycle, it was randomly sent to folks, but in previous national releases, the release followed geographical regions.
After the initial release, if things have gone well, then about a week later (sometimes two) the new national release is made available to all receivers. So basically when a new national release is made available, all receivers will start downloading it.
