I wonder how to get ushare to work? It doesn't have any access controls that I know of...
My laptop has wmp 11 and is a media center pc... my desktop, which is connected to my iomega drive with all my music is xp pro...jaywdetroit said:Okay - This was driving me crazy so I went on a mission.
The problem: My music is stored on a W2K server. I access the music with a permanent drive mapping on my XP PC. I have Windows Media Player 11 installed on my XP SP2 machine. The library on WMP11 is mapped to the Mapped Network Drive.
When I tried to access this music on the HR20, any files stored on the server were represented with an "X" and were not playable.
Solution: I found this article:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/faq/sharing.mspx
What I did: Create a registry entry in the following key, per the article,
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences\HME\
EnableRemoteContentSharing (A DWORD value, value '1')
Then I went out to my share on the server and enabled "read" access for ANONYMOUS.
This worked!!!
I can now access my network music on the HR20 via WMP11 on a different PC.
I recommend reading the article - it's a FAQ. Look in the section under the Question:
"You can use Windows Media Player 11 to share media files that are located on other computers on your home network. However, additional steps are required so that these remote files will play on the devices you are sharing them with."
Now if we could just get the HR20 to recognize DRM content from Rhapsody.
