Sony Expands PMC Relationship

Personalized Media Communications (PMC), a privately held intellectual property developer that owns patents covering television and computing technology, said this week that the company expanded its licensing agreement with Sony.

In addition to Sony, PMC's licensees are Gemstar-TV Guide, Pegasus Communications and The Weather Channel.

PMC owns an extensive intellectual property portfolio, which covers many cable and satellite interactive TV applications in use today, or being introduced or being planned for the future. The company's patents cover methods of operation and apparatus pertaining to services such as controlling the techniques and operations of cable set-top boxes and satellite receivers, downloading software and reprogramming processors, and modifying television programming based on viewer input.

Equity investors in PMC include Gemstar-TV Guide International and Pegasus.
