I have to turn the volume WAY up to hear the sound on recorded shows. The volume is fine if I watch it live. Is this a setup problem? I have tried setting dolby on and off, and I have the same issue.

Watching live, vs Watching recorded... should not be different at all... they are the exact same data feed.

Are you watching live through the HR20 or through another source (maybe a built-in tuner)?

As Earl says the output from the HR20 should be identical whether it is recorded or not.

Another question, are you watching recordings from the same channel as the live channel you are switching to? Switching from HD shows to SD shows? I noticed that I have to crank up the volume on my HD recordings and then when I switch live to some of the SD channels the volume is way too high. I haven't noticed a big difference in volume if the live channel is also HD.

It is very possible that this was the case. I'll check to make sure its an apples to apples comparison.

Why would the volume on HD channels be lower???

Hate to dig this up from '06, but you have to give me some credit for doing a search first before posting the same question.

My recorded HD primetime shows via DTV HD local channels are much quieter than the same live HD broadcast. To make matters worse, the commercials in the recorded HD program are not affected, therefore I have to have the remote armed and ready when they start (mute, FF, play, mute).

Is there another thread on this problem that has more info?
Is there a "fix" in the works?

Two of my buddies have the same problem with their HR20's, 100 and 700 versions.

We all have the sound going through our DD receivers, different makes.

I have personally watched one of my shows live and then played it again after it had stopped recording. There were no volume issues during the live version, but the recorded version experienced the low show volume and normal commercial volume.

Any input/help is appreciated.

They should be but they are not. I have the same problem and hear a lot of poping and noise on the audio on some recordings. all in all I am thrilled with all the new play toys!!
